BOYS TENNIS
Salem 3, Winthrop 2: The Witches won all three singles matches to claim their first victory. Junior captain Rylan Workman set the tone at first position, 6-0, 6-1, while sophomore Finn Hanger, 6-1, 6-2, and junior Eden McClain, 6-1, 6-1, also won.
St. John’s Prep 4, Wellesley 0: The Eagles (6-0) won the first four matches before rain halted first singles. Winners were Jack Prokopis (6-1, 6-1), Luke Free (6-0, 6-2) and the teams of Luke Prokopis/Boris Kouzminov (6-0, 6-0) and James de Buy Wenniger/Wade Evitts (6-1, 6-3).
GIRLS TENNIS
Marblehead 2, Masconomet 2 (susp.): Third singles between Masconomet’s Sophia Donnellan and Marblehead’s Abbie Goodwin was tied (6-4 Donnellan, then 6-3 Goodwin) before the rains came, forcing the match to be halted.
Lani Gilmore and Reese Friedman won at first doubles for Marblehead (6-1, 6-0), as did Josie Reers and Caroline Bruett at second doubles (6-4, 6-2). Masconomet picked up singles wins from Teagan Skulley (6-1, 6-0) at No. 1 and Ria Kundalini (6-4, 6-2) at No. 2.
“Masconomet has won the state championship the last two seasons, so for us to be competitive with them is great for our program,” said Magicians coach Tracy Ackerman. “Abbie really hung in there against a tough opponent to win the second set. It should be a close third set, win or lose in the end, our girls played a great match.”
BASEBALL
Essex Tech 10, Amesbury 4: Freshman Jasper Casinelli-Tarasuik had three hits in his varsity debut and senior Jose Pagan stayed hot with two hits and three RBI to power the Hawks (3-1). Sophomore Liam Waterman collected his third win with five scoreless and Cole Waterman closed the door to end the game under the lights.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Ipswich 14, Georgetown 2: The unbeaten Tigers (5-0) had 13 goal scorers led by Taryn Desmond with two and Lyla Greenleaf with a tally plus four assists. Other offensive contributors were Jayne Krause (1 goal, 2 assists), Allie Wile (1 goal, 1 assist), Ella McCarthy (1 goal, 1 assist), Lucy Winthrop (1 goal, 1 assist) and single scorers Lily Cummins, Asuka Keough, Caroline Winthrop, Keira McPartlin, Avery Brown, Kylynne Courville and Ella Schofield.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 13, Bishop Guertin 5: Playing on the turf at Merrimack College against their Granite State foes, the unbeaten Eagles (now 6-0) broke open a tie game with seven straight goals between the end of the second quarter and throughout the third. St. John’s Prep then added two more in the fourth while allowing just one second half tally against. Defensemen JP Sullivan, Charlie Angell and Sam Wilmot all had goals, with netminders Sam DuPlessis, Max Putney and Austin Kitces each starring in the win. Other SJP goals were scored by brothers Cam and Ryan McCarthy (2 each), Luke Kelly (plus 2 assists), Josh Haarmann, Jackson Quigley, Beckett Lee, Madden McGowan and Josh Barton.
SOFTBALL
Swampscott 8, Lynn Classical 6: Lauren Fahey had two hits and three RBI and teammate Mia Triangle added three hits as the Big Blue shot out to a 5-run lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Triangle pitched four innings before Hayden Haskell came in to help nail down the victory.
St. Paul Worcester 10, Peabody 2: It was a 1-1 game in the sixth when the Tanners (2-3) got tagged for nine runs as the game got away. Junior captain Lizzy Bettencourt went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Peabody while freshman Liv Guarino reached base four times on two singles and two walks. Jazzy Iraola, Jess Steed (RBI) and Mackenzie Landry also hit safely.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Salem State 6, Framingham State 3: Catcher Ryan Bourgeois hit a 2-run double in the eighth and came around on a balk as the Vikings (9-12) scored three in the eighth to even their MASCAC record at 5-5. Brayden Michaelson’s pinch-hit solo homer tied the game in the seventh and Jack Boucher nailed down the save.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Endicott 6, Suffolk 4: Paige Berdos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game and scored on a wild pitch to put the Gulls (21-7) ahead for good. Chloe Shapleigh’s 2-run single tied it up, 3-3, in the third as well. Analise Grady went the distance in the circle, fanning five and deftly working around nine hits.
Scots swept: Gordon dropped a pair of decisions to Westfield State, 11-2 and 15-1, to drop to 7-21 on the season. Ami Rivera’s solo homer in the second game was the highlight for the Fighting Scots.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
UNE 18, Gordon 8: Kaitlyn Mini had four goals and Caroline Piorkowski scored twice with three assists but the Scots (1-13) couldn’t keep pace with the Nor’Easters. Jocelyn Noyes added a pair of tallies for Gordon.
Colby 20, Endicott 6: The visiting Mules, the nation’s No. 3 team, outscored Endicott by nine goals between the second and third periods to pull away. Mia Smith’s three goals paced the Gulls (10-4) offensively while Leah Black had a goal and an assist.
MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
University of New England 17, Gordon 5: Nicholas Flemmi scored three goals and Jackson Wright had the other two for the Scots (1-9). Goalie Colin Lipscomb finished with 15 saves.
