SOFTBALL
Peabody 7, Greater Lawrence 6: Senior Jazzy Iraola hit a bases loaded double to plate three runs and give the Tanners (7-9) the lead for good in the fifth. Freshman Ayanna Cirame held the Reggies scoreless in the last two innings for the complete game win while junior captain Lizzy Bettencourt hit two home runs (her 8th and 9th of the season) for three RBI. Jess Steed (run) and Olivia Guarino (two runs) also hit safely for Peabody.
Hamilton-Wenham 19, Rockport 4: Viola Fazio went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Bianca Fredrickson and Ava Day both collected three RBI as the Generals plated nine in the first and eight more in the second to break the game open. Molly Bransford picked up the win in the circle by going the distance and helped her own cause with two hits while Lilly Guitarr also drove home a run.
Masconomet 8, Winthrop 0: Sydnee Vocino continued to shine in the circle, firing a 1-hit shutout and striking out nine with two walks as the Chieftains evened their record at 7-7. Freshman catcher Logan Schapp (2-for-4) blasted a home run while Angie Vecchio drove in three runs and senior Charlotte Leiss went 2-for-4, scored twice and had one RBI.
Swampscott 8, Lynn Classical 4: The Big Blue doubled up the Rams as Cece O’Connor delivered three hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Olivia Barletta added a hit, two RBI and scored three times while Hayden Haskell went the distance in the circle, striking out seven batters to earn the win.
Manchester Essex 8, Ipswich 1: Elin Roberts had two hits and sacrificed home the lone run for the Tigers while Ava Poire, Aurelia Teheen and Colleen Macdonald also recorded base hits.
Beaver Country Day 11, Pingree 10: Molly Degnan had three hits including a double with two RBI and Cora Ready went 4-for-4 but the Highlanders dropped a back and forth slugfest. Antonelli Jajim also went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
BASEBALL
Peabody 5, Revere 3: Senior captain Joey Smith’s 2-run double in the sixth helped the Tanners (12-3) win their seventh straight by rallying for four runs in the sixth on Senior Day. Jake Crocker and Ethan Waybret added pinch-hit RBI singles and Crocker threw the seventh to save the win for senior Dylan Annese, who struck out six and scattered four hits over six innings of work.
Hamilton-Wenham 13, Pentucket 3: Jack Cooke struck out nine and allowed just two hits as the Generals (12-3) celebrated Senior Day by clinching the CAL Baker title at Patton Park. Owen Waddell went 2-for-3 at the plate while Cole Scanlon had two hits and scored twice and Chase Cann collected four total RBI.
Essex Tech 6, Manchester Essex 1: Jacoby Casinelli Tarasuik picked up his second win on the mound and the Hawks (6-9) made it back-to-back wins as freshman Ryan Skerry closed it out with two scoreless. Xavier Parsons, Cole Waterman, Mike Pesce, Dan Greenfield and Jose Pagan all had momentous hits for Essex Tech.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Ipswich 15, Essex Tech 3: Lucy Winthrop won 11 draw controls to move over 200 in her outstanding career while scoring twice to help the Tigers improve to 10-2. Allie Wile scored six times, Ella McCarthy had three, Lyla Greenleaf netted two with two assists and Jade Wilcox and Maddie Hanson also scored. For the Hawks, Cayla Carpenter made 13 saves in net with Bella Vetrano, Sydney Mace and Gabby Adie scoring.
BOYS LACROSSE
Whittier 18, Hamilton-Wenham 11: Sophomore Billy Brown scored five goals, giving him a team-leading 29, and added one assist while Zach Sachsel added four tallies for the Generals (now 0-13). Drew Tersolo contributed a pair of tallies while captain Charlie Convey had one assist for Hamilton-Wenham, which saw tendy Jackson Pitkin stop five shots.
UNIFIED SPORTS
Salem finishes third at sectional: At the Division 1 Sectional meet, the Witches had 10 different athletes take first place to place third as a team. Sara Balkus was a blue ribbon winner in the D1-2 shot put, with teammates Erik Shehaj (D1-4), Gianmarcos Jimenez (D1-5), and Phillip Wright (D1-6) placing first in the javelin. A sweep in the long jump from Harley Ferrara-Brown (D1-6), Anson Froeschl (D1-7), and Joe Blackburn-Peters (D1-8) helped spark Salem, which also had a trio of first place finishes in the 100 meter races behind Nate Duell (D1-4), Andy Nguyen (D1-6), and Ryan Burnett (D1-7). In addition, the Witches’ 4×100 team of Jayden Lopez, Anson Froeschl, Ryan Burnett, and Erik Shehaj placed first as well.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 5, Winthrop 0: The Magicians (12-1 overall) remained unbeaten in NEC play with straight set wins by TJ Kelly, Austin Bacon, Alex Boehning and the teams of Leo Winocour/Adam Loughlin and Quinn Fletcher/Filip Wabno.
St. John’s Prep 5, Andover 0: The Eagles remained spotless on the year at 14-0 thanks to victories by Rudr Malayya (6-1, 6-2), Jack Prokopis (6-1, 6-2), Luke Free (6-0, 6-3) and the teams of Luke Prokopis/Boris Kouzminov (6-1, 6-0) and James deBuywennigar/Wade Evitts (6-2, 1-6, 6-3).
Swampscott 5, Amesbury 0: Justin Flacke’s 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 comeback win was the highlight for the Big Blue. Also winning were Sam Schepens (6-0, 6-0), Calum Tierney (6-0, 6-0) and Elijah Stadtlander and Daniel Wabno (6-0, 6-2) and Costa Shub and Zac Goldman (6-0, 6-3).
GIRLS TENNIS
Swampscott 5, Amesbury 0: It was another win for the Big Blue with sweeps by Nikki Carr (6-0, 6-2), Ana Eccles (6-1, 6-3), Lilly Carr (6-1, 6-1) and the teams of Ava and Alexia O’Donnell (6-1, 6-2) and Sasha Fafel with Janielle de la Cruz (6-3, 6-3).
Peabody 5, Winthrop 0: Earning their second victory of the season, the Tanners got easy wins in singles action from Valentina Goga (6-0, 6-0), Tiffany Bettencourt (6-0, 6-1) and Alexandra Kourtelidis (6-0, 6-0). It was more of the same in doubles as the pairings of Anna Maciel and Artemis Greko (6-0, 6-0), as well as Izabella Pereira and Shivaun Galvin (6-0, 6-3) also rolled.
GIRLS TRACK
Essex Tech repeats as Voke champions: Nora Kisiel had an amazing day Monday, winning both the 200 and 400 meters and anchoring her team’s 4×400 relay team as the Hawks won their second straight Vocational School title. Delany Dunn was also a first place finisher in the 100 for Essex Tech, which also saw Olivia Fuedo take second in the 400 400 hurdles; Brooke Medico claim second with a PR in the triple jump (34-9); Kayleigh Silva earn another second in the 800; Donovan placing third in the 400; and Morgan Bourgeois shaving a whole minute off her previous best time in the 2-mile to take fifth place.
BOYS TRACK
Hawks set school record in 4×100: Seniors Michael Indelicato and Quinn Adametz, along with freshmen Gavin Cody and Leland Pagan, set a new school record in the 4×100 relay at the Voke State Championships in a time of 45.95 seconds. In addition, Graeme Dineen shined while winning the 400 (51.28) as Essex Tech finished fifth overall, its best team placement in three years.
