BASEBALL
Bishop Fenwick 17, Northeast 1: Tyler Santos went 3-for-3 with three RBI, Casare Rollo drove home four runs and the Crusaders (3-4) cruised. Chris D’Angelo struck out seven in four one-hit inning to earn the win while Andrew McKenzie and John Horgan also contributed doubles. Josh Scali had two hits with three RBI and Jacob Behn also went 2-for-2.
Marblehead 16, Danvers 1: The Magicians (5-3) took advantage of ten walks and an error and scored 11 times in the fourth to make it four straight wins. Brooks Keefe went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Charlie Sachs had three RBI and Bodie Bartram drove in four runs while Chris Cannuscio grabbed his third with four solid frames. For Danvers (0-4), Jack Curcuru had two hits on the day.
Peabody 7, Winthrop 0: Lefty Cam Connolly struck out ten in a three-hit shutout and the Tanners (7-2) won their fourth in a row. Jayden Cunningham had two hits including a double, Josh Sigmon went 3-for-3, Reymi Andino drove home a pair and Jariel Tolentino and Mike Petro each went 2-for-4.
Hamilton-Wenham 6, Newburyport 3: The Generals (2-3) doubled up the Clippers as Caden Schrock hit an RBI double and Cormac Heney had two hits, scored two runs and grabbed his first win in an H-W jersey by striking out eight in 4 1/2 innings of work. Cole Scanlon went 2-for-3 and scores while Adam Green and Galen Clark-Goldfeld also hit safely and scored.
Essex Tech 8, Amesbury 4: Behind freshman Liam Waterman on the mound and older brother Cole at the plate, the Hawks earned their first baseball win as members of the Cape Ann League. Xavier Parsons and Jacoby Casinelli-Tarasuik also chipped in offensively for Essex Tech.
St. Paul’s 7, Pingree 6: Danny Ferris and Tejas Prakash had two hits each but the Highlanders (3-1) fell for the first time on the road this season. Jaylon Richardson pitched well with six strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings and Cole Piasceznski struck out three of the four batters he faced.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Marblehead 14, Gloucester 5: Ramona Gillett had a hat trick and Marblehead improved to 3-4. Also scoring goals were Maddie Forbes, Gretchen Smith, Chloe Rowland, Kathryn Commoss, Caitlyn Ryan, Caroline Scroppe, and Sofia Grubor while Sydney Shull potted two goals and Cassidy Lubeck earned two assists.
Swampscott 15, Essex Tech 2: Hat tricks by Coco Clopton, Avery Laundry and Cecilia Tripp helped the Big Blue improve to 6-1. Victoria Pierro had a scored with five helpers while Sophia Ciciotti, Madeline Goldman, Samantha Demady, Mia Leone and Mia Dahlman all ripped the twine.
For the Hawks (2-4), goalie Kemberly Jean Louis made nine saves while Morgan Costa and Bella Vatrano scored.
Ipswich 14, Georgetown 2: Allie Wile, Estelle Gromko, Halle Greenleaf and Lucy Winthrop all scored two goals to help the Tigers remain undefeated at 6-0. Jayne Krause, Taryn Desmond, Jade Wilcox, Avery Brown, Keira McPartlin and Lily Cummins also helped lead the way to victory for Ipswich.
BOYS LACROSSE
Salem 16, Lynn 7: Goaltender Tony Tsimounis earned his first career victory by stopping six shots as the Witches used a strong fourth quarter effort to pull away for the win. AJ Alessi had a career day, scoring four times and adding six assists for 10 points (all career highs). Mikey Curtin added to his team scoring lead with four goals and four assists, while Jake Lister (assist) and Andreas Bernal added three goals apiece. Gabe Bennett had a goal and an assist, Fionn Coughlin also scored, and Max Levine Stein chipped in with an assist. Jayden Benson (14 faceoff wins) and Matt Rosa (7 faceoff wins) also excelled in the dot.
Swampscott 10, Essex Tech 9: Seven different scorers found the scoresheet for the Big Blue, including two from long pole Max Field, as they raced out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter and never trailed. Liam Keaney (2 goals, 3 assists), Jack Hazell (2 goals), Carson Palmer (goal, assist), Chase Russo (goal, assist), John Von Barta (goal) and Jason Rothwell (goal) also came up clutch for Swampscott (now 7-1), which received 13 saves from goaltender Timmy Sheehan.
The Hawks (4-3) made a furious second half comeback bid and had several chances to tie it in the final minute. Timmy Tavares (3 goals) and Dominic Tiberii (2 goals, 3 assists) led the way offensively while goaltender Damian Biersteker stopped 18 shots. Hadden Amico won 15-of-23 faceoffs, while other Essex Tech scorers included Matt Tavares (2 goals), Fisher Gadbois (1 goal, 2 assists) and Mason Gadbois (goal, assist).
St. John’s Prep 10, St. John’s Shrewsbury 5: Jimmy Nardone (3 goals, assist) and Drew Bossi (2 goals, assist) were the day’s top scorers and goaltender Matt Putney made a half-dozen saves to keep the Eagles (6-0) unbeaten. Josh Haarmann scored twice for the winners, with Cam McCarthy, Oliver Rosselli and John Droggitis (first goal of his career) also scoring and Brendan Powers handing out one assist.
GIRLS TENNIS
Bishop Fenwick 5, St. Mary’s Lynn 0: Winning each match in straight sets, the Crusaders saw the No. 1 doubles team of Lacey Murphy and Caroline O’Hare prevail, 6-1, 6-0, as did the No. 2 tandem of Kit Wichroski and Maggie Wichroski in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Singles wins came via Gwen Schroeder (7-5, 6-0), Callie Reed (6-0, 6-0) and Ari Summa (6-1, 6-0).
Swampscott 3, Gloucester 2: The Big Blue swept the doubles action behind straight set wins from Victoria Quagrello/Eve Bryne and sisters Ava and Alexis O’Donnell. Anna Eccles also triumphed at first singles, 6-2, 6-1.
BOYS TENNIS
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Marblehead 2: Elois Chanel took first singles, Rory Taylor won at third and seniors Max Clarke and Henry Stinson won a three-setter to send the Generals to an exciting non-league win. Marblehead’s winners were Etan Farfel and the team of Anthony Vizy and Ty Cooper.
Swampscott 5, Gloucester 0: The Big Blue improved to 6-1 thanks to wins by Charles Schepens (6-2, 7-6), Sam Schepens (6-3, 6-4), Maxum Zeissing (4-6, 6-4, 12-10) and the teams of Trevor Talebian/Nick Custer (6-0, 6-2) and Julian Flake/Lucas Bereaud (6-3, 6-7, 10-5).
SOFTBALL
Danvers 4, Gloucester 3: Lauren Ahearn’s sacrifice in the bottom of the sixth brought Addi McCarty home with the go-ahead run and Skylar Coakley finished off her complete game as the Falcons moved to 4-2. Coakley struck out seven in the complete game 5-hitter while McCarty had two RBI, two runs scored and a triple and Sammy Fay had a key single.
Marblehead 22, Winthrop 0: Sophomore Tessa Francis allowed one hit in the five inning shutout with 13 strikeouts and the entire Magician batting order contributed offensively as they improved to 5-1.
Malden Catholic 8, Bishop Fenwick 3: Gigi Aupont hit a 2-run homer and went 3-for-4 but the Crusaders dipped to 2-3. Val Tate (2-for-3) and Lulu Dias both doubled for Fenwick.
Newburyport 5, Hamilton-Wenham 1: Molly Degnan pitched well for the Generals (2-4) with seven strikeouts and no earned runs allowed while Bella Fazio had her team’s lone hit with a double.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
St. John’s Prep 3, Haverhill 0: The Eagles swept 25-16, 25-16, 25-9 while hitting .482 as a team and totaling up 35 assists with 32 digs.
BOYS TRACK
Peabody 77, Beverly 59: Double winners Eli Batista (100, 200) and Alex Jackson (shot put, javelin) helped the Tanners put away the Panthers. Brian Stevens came in first in the low hurdles for Peabody while Evan Bedard won the triple jump, Owen Brennan won the 800 and Declan Smith took the mile.
Beverly was led by Leo Sheriff’s double dip in the high hurdles (14.7) and high jump (6-foot-2) while Harry Silva won the long jump (21-3) and placed second in the triple (42-2 1/2). Alex Marquez won the discus (113-4), Riley McGoldrick won the 2-mile in a person best 10:01 and Ray Kwiatek’s 50.9 in the 400 was a new PR.
GIRLS TRACK
Peabody 87, Beverly 49: Alessandra Forgione was first in both the discus and javelin and Makayla Kokozenis doubled up in the high jump and triple jump as the Tanners topped the Panthers in a battle of NEC powerhouses. Other winners for Peabody were Stella D’Ambrosio (long jump), Nicole O’Furie (shot put), Marissa Simmons (100), Avery Marcus (200), Ava Champigny (400) and Kyra Buckley (2-mile).
Senior captain Allison Prasse remained unbeaten for Beverly in the mile at 5:54 while Grace Williams won the 800 in 2:30. Junior Grace Galbreath was second in both the low hurdles and high hurdles and senior Caroline McKenna had a personal best 4-foot-6 high jump.
UNIFIED TRACK
Salem shines: On Senior Night, the Witches did well against Revere with each senior setting a personal best in various events. Senior Khyra Feliu Hernandez made her Unified Track and Field debut, tossing the javelin 7-feet. Senior Jarian Garcia set a personal record in the 100 (15.97 seconds) and helped lead-off Salem’s winning 4×100 relay team alongside underclassmen Jayden Lopez, Anson Froeschl, and Erik Shehaj (1:05.63). Senior Denisse Manon Fortunato set a personal best in 100 dash l (20.45 seconds), while senior Phillip Wright set a personal record in the shot put (28-1).
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 10, Gordon 0: The nation’s No. 1 ranked team cruised with Nick Cannata allowing just two hits over the seven inning complete game. Brendan O’Neil had two doubles with two RBI for Endicott (29-2) while T.J. Liponis also doubled home two runs.
Salem State 16, Framingham State 1: James Dolan and Yadbriel Gonzalez had three hits each and the Vikings (15-12) took care of business in MASCAC play. Conor Dolan tripled and totaled five RBI and Cam Fisher earned the win on the mound.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Gulls swept: Endicott was blanked by Babson, 8-0, and also lost 9-8 to fall to 20-9 on the season. The higher scoring of the two games saw Hadley Marchand hit a homer and Paige Berdos drive in three runs.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Fitchburg State 15, Salem State 8: Jenna Wells had a hat trick and Aislinn Bennett scored twice for the Vikings, now 2-11.
