GIRLS LACROSSE
Masconomet 13, Peabody 7: Goaltender Sophia Carson was exceptional with 19 saves and the Chieftains (9-4) won their third in a row. Freshman Kayleigh LeColst led the offense with five goals and two assists while Violet Malinowski scored two with a helper and Ava Gauvin had one goal and two assists.
Marblehead 16, Danvers 4: Zoe Dwyer had five goals and Anna Rausch netted a hat trick as the Magicians (5-7) shot out to a 14-1 halftime lead. Other scorers included Addie Co Peeps (two goals), Emma Ryan (two goals), Maggie Svencer (goal, two assists), Sammy Walker (two goals) and Sydney Moniz and goalie Molly Bullard played great with 10 saves.
Goal scorers for the Falcons (2-11) were Sophia Goudreau, Hannah Tersolo, Ruth Gasinowski, and Sienna Goldberg.
Swampscott 18, Gloucester 3: Victoria Pierro was the playmaker with seven assists along with two goals and the Big Blue improved to 8-2. Lucy Gentry scored twice while Bridget Maloney had a hat trick, Lia Beatrice had a goal and two assists, Quinn Kelleher netted four, Fiona Keaney had one, Bridget Urbano had a hat trick and two helpers and Reagan Pelletier scored twice.
BOYS LACROSSE
Danvers 16, Marblehead 13: The Falcons, who trailed by three (11-8), roared back to gave Marblehead their first Northeastern Conference loss in eight tries with the upset win as Cooper Dunham (6 goals, 3 assists) and Mason Gadbois (3 goals, 4 assists) both had monster offensive showings. Evan Roach won 17 faceoffs, including the 500th of his career, for Danvers (now 6-6) as well. Tyler Moody (4 goals, assist), Ben Campbell (2 goals), Hunter DeDominics (goal), Owen Swanton (assist) and goalie Connor Dembowski (18 saves) were also instrumental in the victory.
The Magicians (8-3 overall), who saw their seven-game winning streak halted, got three goals and five assists from Tyler Forbes. Landon Dosch (3 goals, assist), Reid Wysor (3 goals), Will Kinahan (2 goals, 2 assists), Bailey Finkle (goal, 2 assists) and captain Owen Dulac (goal, assist) also contributed offensively, with goalie Colin Maniaci making nine saves.
Masconomet 18, Peabody 7: Myles Bernier and Owen Hannigan each scored three goals and added one assist as the Chieftains (6-6) got to .500 for the first time this spring. Ben Miga and Jax Parker each contributed two goals and two assists; Timmy McManus (assist), Achi Koutoulas (his first 2 varsity goals) and Tyler Durgan all had two goals; Niko Emmanuel and Jack Fabiano finished with a goal and an assist apiece; and Ian Ramsay, Tony Nguyen and Adam Mouhawil each had one assist. Goalies Jack Wheadon (6 saves) and Michael Kenny (7 saves) split the contest in net.
Freshman Logan Bryte notched a career high five goals while Ben Wager finished with a dozen saves in net for the Tanners (now 2-10). Kellen Quadros and Mario Ippolito had the other Peabody tallies.
Swampscott 15, Gloucester 5: It was all Big Blue (now 6-7) as the defense dominated and the offense got untracked. Tyler Ostroff and Jason Rothwell both had three goals and one assist, with John von Barta and Emerson Joy also finding twine three times. Johnny Marino and Will Rowe each had a goal and an assist; Bennet Tierney also scored; Will Ficken and Luke Michigan (18 faceoff wins) both had one assist, and goalie Colton Alex made four saves.
BASEBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 11, Triton 0: The unbeaten Generals (13-0) set the tone by scoring five in the top of the first and stayed perfect atop the CAL. Cormac Heney went 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles while Caden Schrock also had three hits and Owen Waddell contributed two. Griffin Hawkins picked up his fifth win of the season and Ollie Blatz was excellent for eight relief outs.
Essex Tech 6, Ipswich 3: The Hawks (5-8) rallied with four runs in the fifth to double up the Tigers (3-10). Tommy Grant struck out ten batters over six innings and allowed just three hits and Liam Waterman went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI. Also driving home runs were Jasper Casinelli Tarasuik and Jackson Taylor. Senior AJ Nicoli also had a great defensive game on Senior Day for the Hawks.
Graham McNamara doubled and knocked in two runs for Ipswich, which led 3-0 after two.
GIRLS TENNIS
Danvers 5, Winthrop 0: The Falcons evened their record at 5-5 with all three singles matches going 6-0, 6-0 thanks to Josie Vogel, Paige Sherman and Isabel Beaudoin. The doubled teams also swept every game with Hadley Brown/Gabby Lindeman and Avary Hertigan/Ari Fajardo.
Masconomet 5, Peabody 0: Nava Partal and Ella Mossey won a well-played match at first doubles, 7-5, 7-5, and the Chieftains moved to 7-4 overall and 7-1 in NEC play. Other winners were Ria Kundaliya (6-0, 6-0), Ava Zarrineh (6-3, 6-3), Isabella O’Connor (6-3, 6-1) and Gabby Fraser/Sakura St. Onge (6-0, 6-1).
GIRLS TRACK
Ipswich 90, Hamilton-Wenham 55: The unbeaten Tigers (4-0) clinched the CAL Baker title as Kameya Perron won the pole vault, triple jump and high hurdles and Una Whyte (100, 200) and Bree Doucet (shot put, discus) were each double winners. Other first place finishers were Luna Harvey (javelin), Akina Perron (high jump), Bella Bruno (long jump) and Mairead Healey (low hurdles).
BOYS TRACK
Hamilton-Wenham 78, Ipswich 65: Leading the Tigers (0-3-1) were event winners Anderson Pillis (high jump, javelin), James Dick (long jump, triple jump), Joe Wertz (low hurdles), Ange Tshibambe (high hurdles), Zach Isaac (200) and Ryan Jones (2-mile).
SOFTBALL
Lynn Classical 5, Salem 2: Annie Thornett struck out six and gave up three hits with none earned and also had two hits in the tough luck loss for the Witches. Liv Loux also had two hits and Emma Brennan, Shaylee Paige and Lucy Gardner played great in the outfield.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 5, Malden Catholic 0: The Magicians moved to 8-2 with wins by Ty Cooper (6-0, 6-2), TJ Kelly (6-1, 6-1), Caleb Sidman and the teams of Adam Loughlin/Alex Boehning (6-2, 7-5) and Cordt Menzler and Filip Wabno (6-1, 3-6, 10-5).
Danvers 4, Winthrop 1: Playing well in wins for the Falcons were Jack Scarpaci (6-3, 7-5), Connor DiTomaso (6-0, 6-3) and the teams of Anthony Gaudino and Drew Maioli (6-2, 6-3) and Kyle Sillars and Graham Corbin (6-2, 6-0). At third singles, Jack Chronis played great in a three-setter, going down in a 5-7, 7-5, 9-11 marathon tiebreaker.
St. John’s Prep 5, BC High 0: The Eagles made quick work of their like-nick named foes with wins by John Deangelis (6-4, 7-5), Rudr Malayya (6-2, 6-1), Wade Evitts (6-2, 6-1) and the teams of Boris Lande & Ciaran De Buy (6-2, 6-1) and Chris Melville & Evan Haykal (7-5, 6-0).
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
MCLA 6, Salem State 3: Ellie Kleinheinz stroked a triple in the first inning as the Vikings scored three to take the lead in the first round of the MASCAC playoffs. The visitors from MCLA rebounded in the late innings, though, to end a successful season for Salem State at 27-12. Abigail LaClair also had an RBI single and Alanis Toledano went 2-for-3.
