Being a Thomasville native, I often find myself going to the same restaurants, ordering the same coffee drinks and doing the same activities over and over again. I want to get out of my small town rut, so through Trying Thomasville, I challenge myself to go try new things at the same places I’ve been going to for nearly twenty years.
Whether it’s a seasonal coffee, a new exercise class or a staff favorite I’ve never tried off the menu, I’ll be reviewing it.
This week, I’m home from the University of Georgia for Thanksgiving and decided I’d scour the town for any new, festive dishes.
Sweet Grass Pumpkin Cheesecake
While visiting one of my absolute Thomasville favorites, Sweet Grass Dairy, I was informed that there was a new fall dessert option: the Pumpkin Cheesecake. I knew I absolutely had to try this.
Over the summer, I tried their new blueberry cheesecake and fell in love. After writing a column gushing over it, I began being recognized around town as “Cheesecake Girl.” It’s safe to say that I had to be the judge of the seasonal version of their beloved dish.
I sat outside during sunset (accompanied by my puppy) and I was already having a delightful time at the cheese shop before the cheesecake arrived at the table. The slice was massive, made up of a graham cracker crust and pumpkin filling.
The cheesecake is made of Sweet Grass’ signature Lil’ Moo cheese, which is a multipurpose, tangy cheese that can be used for a variety of recipes or spreads, similar to cream cheese. There was a pleasant, smooth note of pumpkin, enhanced by cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice. It was creamy, rich and extremely similar to the original dessert.
Once again, it melted in my mouth, and was so creamy. The crust was firm and held up, but was still soft and buttery. I thought the pumpkin flavor was perfect and not too overwhelming, as many pumpkin spice and fall themed treats tend to be.
It was a bit richer than the original, which is why I suggest sharing the dessert. I only could eat a small portion before finally putting down my fork due to its thickness (but that could also be attributed to the delicious burger I had prior to dessert).
It was a perfect predecessor to Thanksgiving and helped to extend the whimsical fall feeling as we continue to grow closer to Christmas time. It’s a limited edition dessert, so I definitely suggest you get it while you can.
I give Sweet Grass Dairy’s pumpkin cheesecake a 10/10. It was a delightful fall version of their fan favorite dessert and left me feeling festive during Thanksgiving break.
