SARANAC LAKE — The Trudeau Institute, Inc., a nonprofit biomedical research organization, has been awarded a $2.5 million Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability and Technology Grant from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.
The grant will enable upgrades to the Institute’s HVAC and Building Management Systems. These enhancements will boost energy efficiency, provide precise environmental controls vital for sensitive laboratory work and strengthen overall building resiliency.
As a result, Trudeau’s research facilities will remain safe, sustainable and equipped to support innovative biomedical research that benefits public health and drives regional economic growth.
The CREST program supports projects that strengthen community infrastructure, promote economic sustainability and enhance technological capacity across New York state.
Trudeau’s project closely aligns with these goals by increasing the resilience and operational reliability of its research campus and boosting its ability to attract scientific partnerships, talent and investment to the North Country.
“This investment from DASNY is transformative for our campus and our community,” Chief Administrative Officer Tina Moody said in a press release. “Reliable HVAC and building management systems are not simply facilities upgrades for a biomedical research institute. They are essential to maintaining the precise environmental conditions required for life-saving research.
“These improvements allow us to modernize our laboratories, operate more efficiently and continue contributing to the scientific and economic vitality of our region.”
For more than a century, Trudeau Institute has set the standard for immunological research, establishing itself as a cornerstone of scientific advancement in the region. Beyond its groundbreaking discoveries in infectious diseases and immunology, the institute is a major economic driver, supporting high-quality jobs, fostering scientific partnerships and securing substantial research funding that benefits the wider community.
