NORTH ANDOVER — A boom on a truck caught overhead wires on Route 125 and ripped down an electrical pole in front of the Butcher Boy Plaza causing traffic backups Tuesday afternoon.
North Andover Deputy Fire Chief Graham Rowe reported the call came in at 3:10 p.m. about the accident involving a commercial truck. There were no reported injuries as Rowe said the driver just caught the wires and did not hit the pole itself.
But the action “snapped the pole in half,” Rowe said.
The area had power as of 3:45 p.m., but Route 125 was shut down at Commerce Way, Great Pond Road and Barker Street because of the downed wires and pole.
North Andover Police Department was controlling traffic and diverting cars at those points.
National Grid supervisors were on scene and waiting on crews to put in a new pole and transfer the wires. Rowe said he was informed by National Grid that it was a telecommunications pole, likely either Verizon or Comcast.
Rowe estimated it will be a while before the portion of the road reopens.
