PETOSKEY — Three North Central Michigan College cross country runners qualified for nationals with their performance at regionals.
The men’s & women’s cross country teams competed at the MCCAA & NJCAA Region XII Championship in Goodells, hosted by St. Clair County CC, with all members of the men’s team and four out of five women’s runners setting new personal records at the meet.
Dakota Taylor (Engadine) qualified for the NJCAA DII National Championship. He led the way for the Timberwolves at the MCCAA & Region XII Championship with his new personal-best 28:29 in the 8K race.
Kendra Couturier (Lake Leelanau St. Mary) and Sydney Feagan (Petoskey St. Michael) both qualified for the NJCAA DII National Championship. Couturier set a new personal best with a time of 20:30, improving ten seconds from her PR two weeks ago. Feagan improved on her personal best to 21:11.
The Timberwolves women’s volleyball team (14-11, 5-6) hosted the No. 14-ranked Grand Rapids Community College for Sophomore Night in which members of the sophomore class were recognized for playing in their final home game at Petoskey Plastics Arena. The Raiders won 25-20, 25-19, 25-16.
Following the other MCCAA Northern Conference matches over the weekend the Timberwolves officially clinched their place in the Great Lakes district tournament the week of Nov. 6–8. The Timberwolves await their final seeding and first opponent for the tourney at GRCC. The winner of this tournament gets a bid to the NJCAA DII National Championship.
Timberwolves travel to Montcalm CC (5-18, 1-10) for the final game of the MCCAA Northern Conference.
If the Timberwolves win they will claim third place in the conference, and the North’s No. 3 seed for the Great Lakes district tournament.
Men’s and women’s basketball starts competition this weekend at Petoskey Plastics Arena this weekend, with the Timberwolves Tip Off Tournament. NCMC hosts Lake Michigan College for a men’s/women’s doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and brings in Grand Rapids CC for another twinbill at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Evelyn VanTol (Frankfort) and Ally Sutton (Kingsley) represent the area on the women’s team, with Gavin Goetz (Cadillac), Rylan Matelski (Gaylord St. Mary), Sam Schoonmaker (Inland Lakes) and Jack Clancy (Harbor Springs) on the men’s team.
