MOUNT SAVAGE — Mount Savage Road was closed Friday morning near the intersection of Barrelville Road as firefighters battled a tractor-trailer fire, according to Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department Chief Matt Wolfe.
“It was a flatbed tractor-trailer that wasn’t carrying any product,” Wolfe said. “The tractor part caught on fire.”
A spokesperson for the Allegany County Joint Communications Center said units were dispatched at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Wolfe said that the first arriving unit reported a working fire and additional fire units were requested.
Units from Mount Savage, Wellersburg, Corriganville, Ellerslie and LaVale responded to the blaze.
“The road was closed for about a half-hour during active firefighting operations and then one lane opened up,” Wolfe said. “The truck was on the shoulder.”
Approximately 20 firefighters responded to the incident.
No injuries were reported.
Units were on scene for approximately an hour, according to the Joint Communications Center spokesperson.
After the fire was out, the scene was turned over to Maryland State Police, Wolfe said.
