ANDOVER — Three town offices are temporarily moving a quarter-mile down the street for the next eight to 10 months as part of the Town Offices undergoes renovations to become more accessible.
Town Manager Andrew Flanagan updated the Select Board last Tuesday about three departments moving temporarily to Old Town Hall, 20 Main St., as the second floor of Town Offices, 36 Bartlet St., gets a facelift.
The improvements are part of a long-planned renovation project to improve public spaces within Town Hall. The project is slated to begin shortly after the three departments are out of the building and expected to take 10 months.
“We are on the move,” Flanagan said.
Beginning on June 6, the offices of the town clerk, assessor and treasurer will start to relocate to Old Town Hall. Flanagan projected it will take the departments a few days to fully move out. The staff of the three offices will be available to residents at the Town Offices during the transition, which is expected to be complete by June 9.
“The rest of the building will generally look like this one,” Flanagan said about how the third floor is laid out.
The town will occupy all of Old Town Hall, with the exception of the post office. The departments will operate at full capacity in the temporary location. The town clerk’s office will be situated on the first floor near the building’s front door. The treasurer’s and assessor’s offices will be on the second floor.
Residents will find general services upstairs at Old Town Hall with service counters. There will be signs at both Town Offices and Old Town Hall to inform residents of the temporary changes.
Human Resources and the Legal Department have been at the temporary location for a while and will move back to the Town Offices once the project is done, Flanagan said. He added that since town attorney Douglas Heim started two years ago, he’s only ever worked out of Old Town Hall and will be welcomed into the Town Offices for the first time soon enough.
Offices and meeting spaces on the first and third floors of the Town Offices will remain open during renovations.
