GILBERTSVILLE-MOUNT UPTON CENTRAL SCHOOL
Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School announced Alyssa Sorochinsky was named valedictorian and Emma Peck was named salutatorian of the Class of 2025.
Outside of the classroom, Sorochinsky has been an outstanding leader in the Catskill Area Student Study Council, making a lasting impact on the school community. She received numerous awards, including the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Award and the Section IV Character Counts Award. She was National Honor Society president and as a Rotary Youth Leadership Representative.
Sorochinsky is an New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete who has excelled in soccer, basketball, softball and track and field. She is the daughter of Kimberly (Jesse) Boldt and Matt (Melissa) Sorochinsky.
Peck served as a Girls State Representative, participated in GMU Mock Trial and held leadership roles as National Honor Society member and S.A.D.D. treasurer. She is a member of a local 4-H club.
She is an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete, excelling in soccer, basketball and track and field, and has been recognized by the New York State School Music Association and All-County for senior band. She is the daughter of Lori and Gary Peck.
SHERBURNE-EARLVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL
The Sherburne-Earlville Central School District announced Gaven May was named valedictorian and Lydia Larchar was named salutatorian of the Class of 2025.
A snowboarder, roller-skater, and musician, May often can be found doing what he loves when he isn’t working on schoolwork. He also shows dedication to the community by coaching Math Club and with his activity in the Chenango Youth Philanthropy Council.
A national merit-commended scholar and a top scorer on the SAT, May has set himself apart from the rest. The son of Melanie and Michael May, he will attend Dartmouth College for economics. He hopes to join the Dartmouth snowboarding team and continue playing music on campus in jazz band and wind ensemble. Eventually, he wants to work in investment banking and earn an MBA. His end goal is to reach a partner or executive position at an investment firm.
Larchar is a hardworking student-athlete who contributes greatly to the Sherburne-Earlville community. Despite the heavy workload of taking all honors and Advanced Placement classes, she still finds time to be a three-sport athlete.
She played trumpet in the Sherburne-Earlville band and is a member of the community chorus program in Sherburne. She enjoys spending time at her family farm and youth group activities with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The daughter of Scott and Jenni Larchar, she plans to study Animal and Dairy Science at Utah State University. After her time at university, she plans to go on a mission trip for her church.
