The Mississippi Arts +Entertainment Experience invites area residents to enjoy a breakfast-for-dinner buffet on Tuesday, Nov. 28, while celebrating the launch of a new book by restauranteur and author Robert St. John.
General admission tickets are $125 and are still available for the experience, called “Breakfast in the Evening with Robert St. John.” Tickets can be purchased online at msarts.org or by calling The MAX at 601-581-1550. VIP tickets are already sold out.
“This is our big annual fall fundraiser. Robert is going to come in and cook out of his new cookbook,” said Elizabeth Williams, festival producer for The MAX. “It’s a breakfast cookbook, so we are going to do kind of an upscale breakfast for dinner that should be fabulous. He’s going to have like chicken and waffles. He’s doing a biscuit bar with all different kinds of yummy things. There will be a grits bar so there will be greens and shrimp and crawfish étouffée that you can do over grits.”
St. John, who grew up in Hattiesburg and owns several restaurants in the city, will also be available to sign copies of his book, “Mississippi Mornings: Deep South Breakfasts, Brunches and Musings.” His 13th book, this one is full of classic Southern dishes and updated twists on familiar favorites.
The VIP experience will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include a cooking demonstration by St. John, showcasing breakfast and brunch recipes from his new cookbook.
Doors for general admission will open at 6 p.m. and participants will have access to a fully stocked bar while savoring their dinner. St. John will walk around and mingle with attendees during this time.
All ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase St. John’s new cookbook at a discounted price, and he will be available to sign copies.
Williams said the experience with St. John will be an event local residents don’t want to miss.
“You get to support The MAX, and Robert is such an entertainer and such a talented chef, everyone should have a good time,” she said.
