GIRLS TENNIS
Swampscott 4, Lynnfield 1: The undefeated Big Blue (21-0) kept their perfect season going by upsetting the No. 3 Pioneers to advance to the Division 3 state Final Four. Winners were Nikki Carr (6-1, 6-2), Ginger Gregoire (6-4, 6-0) and Ana Eccles (6-4, 6-0) to make it a singles sweep. Eve Byrne and Lilly Carr also won, 6-4, 6-2.
Ipswich 4, Cohasset 1: The Tigers will be heading to the D4 Final Four for the first time ever after getting wins from Leila Harb (6-0, 6-0), Sarah Belford (6-2, 6-3) and the doubles teams of sisters Abbie and Phoebe Allen (6-1, 6-3) and Eve Melzack and Anna Kalinowski (6-4,6 -3).
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 3, Walpole 2: A first singles win by Ty Cooper (6-1, 6-2) put the No. 5 seed Magicians (20-2) through to the D2 Final Four with a thrilling win. TJ Kelly also won, 6-2, 6-2, and the first doubles team to Adam Loughlin and Alex Boehning prevailed, 6-3, 6-3. The doubles team of Filip Wabno and Cordt Menzler also played well, losing in a three-set tiebreaker.
Duxbury 4, Masconomet 1: At third singles, Parker Kurtz won 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 to finish his season a perfect 13-0 but the Chieftains bowed out of the Division 2 state tourney against an excellent opponent.
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Amesbury 0: The Generals punched their ticket to the D4 Final Four by beating another Cape Ann League foe.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Ipswich 15, Fairhaven 2: It’s yet another Division 4 Final Four appearance for the Tigers, who cruised by Fairhaven in the quarterfinal round. Leading Ipswich were Allie Wile (four goals, two assists), Natalie Elder (four goals, assist), Ella McCarthy (two goals, two assists), Maddie Machaiek (two goals, assist), Ella Schofield (two goals) and Keira McPartlin (goal, assist). Sydney Leonard made four saves in goal and great defense was provided by Asuka Keough and Taryn O’Brien (five draw controls).
BASEBALL
Catholic Memorial 4, St. John’s Prep 2: The Eagles plated two in the first to jump ahead but were held off for the rest of the afternoon in a D1 second round loss to their Catholic Conference rivals. Sophomore Owen Flanagan and Jackson Zaimes pitched well but the Knights broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth to move on. Senior captain Christian McCarthy went 2-for-3 with a double for St. John’s while Jeremiah Ramirez had two hits, Jimmy DiCarlo had one and senior Brady Baldassare scored a win.
Fairhaven 15, Danvers 3: A Chase Richmond sac fly and Colby Medeiros scoring on a wild pitch put Danvers ahead by two in the first inning of a D3 Sweet 16 battle, but Fairhaven took the lead in the third and poured on eight in the fourth to end the Falcons’ playoff run. Jason Luti had the only hit of the game for Danvers (12-10) while Dylan Weeks, Cooper MacDonald and Richmond battled on the mound.
