BASEBALL
Ipswich 6, Rockport 5: Graham McNamara’s two-out RBI single in the seventh capped a rally for the Tigers (2-1), who came from 4-0 and 5-4 down to win on the road. Cole Pezza nailed down the save with a clean bottom half in relief of Ethan Boleski, who was excellent with seven strikeouts over six innings. McNamara finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and Brady Merry knocked in a pair and doubled.
Bishop Fenwick 11, Bishop Stang 9: Henry Van Faasen put Stang away in order in the seventh, capping five innings with seven strikeout to earn the win as the Crusaders (2-0) re-took the lead after Stang tied it at 9-9 in the sixth. Nick McFadden’s RBI single gave Fenwick some cushion while Timmy Ronningen came up with two hits and four RBI.
Pentucket 4, Essex Tech 3: Declan Feeney stayed hot at the dish with two doubles but the Hawks (3-4) saw the Panthers walk off after chipping away and erasing what was a 3-0 Tech lead. Jasper Casinelli-Tarasuik also had a nice day at the plate with two hits and two RBI.
SOFTBALL
Masconomet 6, Beverly 3: Alli Kelter and Olivia Palmer each went 2-for-3 and drove home two runs as the Chieftains (3-1) won their third straight. Pitcher Sydnee Vocino did a nice job holding off a potent Beverly lineup, led by Ella Campos (1-for-3, RBI) and pitcher Lidia Miedema (RBI double, 7 strikeouts in the circle).
Ipswich 12, Whittier 0: Aurelia Teheen fanned 11 and the Tigers piled up 11 hits led by Jada Holman’s two knocks and four RBI. Lola Morley, Julia Hubbard and Colleen Macdonald all also collected two hits for the winners.
Gloucester 10, Salem 1: Addy Millar scored for Salem when he was sent home on a hit by Liv Loux but the NEC leading Fishermen were tough at the plate. Annie Thornett struck out eight and allowed just one earned while helping her cause with a hit. Ashley Grimes and Amelia Meegan also hit safely.
Lynnfield 8, Essex Tech 6: The Hawks dropped a high scoring affair to their Cape Ann League rivals.
BOYS LACROSSE
Salem 11, Malden 2: Jake Lister scored three times and dished out five assists as the Witches (2-2) won for the second time in as many days, this time prevailing on the road. Alex Alessi also had a huge day with four goals and two assists for the Red-and-Black, with Tyler Lister and Nathan Silva both contributing a goal and one assist. Jaiden Ortiz and Jacob Riley scored solo goals; Aaron Cook finished with one assist; and goaltender Vincent Milano’s 7 saves earned him the victory.
Newburyport 10, Marblehead 8: Facing a tough non-league foe, the Magicians (now 1-2) got three goals and assist from both Tyler Forbes and Kyle Thibodeau, plus a goal and an assist from Landon Dosch and one snipe from Owen Dulac. Reid Wysor (2) and Will Kinhan picked up assists, with goalie Colin Maniaci stopping 10 shots in net.
Bishop Stang 14, Bishop Fenwick 1: The Crusaders had a rough go of it on the road against their Catholic Central League rivals.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Pingree 12, St. Paul’s 8: Isla Cleveland had an incredible game for the Highlanders, winning four draws and scoring four goals with two assists. Caitlin Cunningham had two goals as well, Ellie Bracken netted three and Liv Melei added a goal and an assist.
Masconomet 11, Pentucket 6: Mia Marques netted a hat trick for the Chieftains while Violet Malinowski, Gracelyn Potvin and Kayleigh LeColst all scored two goals each.
Bishop Fenwick 10, Bishop Stang 6: The Crusaders played well defensively and got hat tricks from both Breanna Genzale and Caroline Laplame in the victory. Sophie Koles added two goals and Camille Yanofsky and Ada Zaccaria each scored once.
Newton South 13, Peabody 6: Victoria Vaz won six draws and had two goals with two assists but the Tanners (2-1) dropped their first game. Senior goalie Eleni Spack made 10 saves while Leah Bresnahan had a hat trick, Arianna Alvardao scored and Leah Ruffing and Sydney Angland shined defensively.
GIRLS TENNIS
Beverly 5, Mystic Valley 0: The unbeaten Panthers (5-0) got wins from Adeline Kontos(6-0, 6-0), Olivia Devereaux (6-0, 6-1), CaCee Tanzella (6-0, 6-0) as well as the teams of Sophie Litter and Claire Fitzgerald (6-0, 6-1) and Caroline Kearny with Lilianna Jimenez (6-1, 6-2).
Swampscott 3, Lynnfield 2: The second doubles team of Eve Byrne and Lilly Carr took home a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 victory to help give their Big Blue a non-league win. Nikki Carr won handily at first singles (6-3, 6-2), as did Ginger Gregoire at second singles (6-2, 6-4).
Manchester Essex 3, Masconomet 2: Ria Kundaliya (6-3, 6-3) won in straight sets at first singles for the Chieftains (now 2-1), while the first doubles team of Neva Partal and Isabella O’Connor grinded out a three-set triumph (6-4, 4-6, 6-4).
Masconomet 5, Peabody 0: Winners for the Chieftains on Wednesday were Ria Kundaliya (6-0, 6-1), Sienna Anvari (6-0, 6-1), Ava Zarrineh (6-0, 6-0) and the teams of Neva Partal/Isabella O’Connor (6-3, 6-1) and Cyra Anvari/Ella Mossey (6-1 6-1).
BOYS TENNIS
Lynnfield 3, Swampscott 2: Senior Victor Zeissig battled back to win 7-5 and 7-6 in a great effort for Swampscott and senior captain Sam Schepens also took his match, 6-1, 6-1.
VOLLEYBALL
BC High 3, St. John’s Prep 0: The Eagles fell to 1-4 after a loss on their home floor.
UNIFIED TRACK & FIELD
Salem shines: In their second meet of the season, the Witches had some impressive performances. Senior Gianmarcos Jimenez set a new personal record in the 400, running 1:16.31. Senior Mady Christie lept her furthest long jump ever at 7-feet-8, senior Amaya Lindor made her Unified debut, crushing the 100 in 18.64. Post-grad Zadrian Burris threw his furthest javelin of his career at 11 feet and senior Ryan Burnett also set a new personal best in the shot put, throwing 26-3.
