Masconomet dominates in sweep: Behind state qualifier David Palmer’s top time of 22.39 seconds, the Chieftains took down both Andover, 106-29, and Haverhill, 86-49, Thursday at Bradford Ski Area. Masconomet also got strong showings from Tyler Durgan (23.99), Nolan Zamagni (24.48), Bridger Clark-Alderman (25.08), Nate Showers (25.09) and Ben Gaudin (25.18).
St. John’s Prep stays unbeaten: With victories over Hamilton-Wenham (110-25) and Manchester Essex (94-41), the Eagles continued to shine on the slopes. Owen McLain led the way for SJP with a time of 21.87 seconds; he was followed by Victor Barnas (22.49), Andrew Pellegrini (22.92), Dylan Pelletier (23.00), Sebastian Garvin (23.39), Colton Friedlander (23.48) and Sebastian Bell (23.54).
Hamilton-Wenham drops two: The Generals fell to both St. John’s Prep and Newburyport (75-60) despite solid showings from Colin McCaughey (22.65), Swayer Hancock (23.55) and Zachary Smith (24.51).
GIRLS TRACK
Beverly 64, Danvers 22: Lidia Meidema won the shot put in a throw of 33 feet 2 inches, followed by Panther teammates Rylie Berman (29-5 3/4) in second place and Hannah Brown in third, leading the Orange-and-Black to victory. Lisa Friedreich (high hurdles), Chlose Bossler (mile), Katty Kwapniewski (300), Mackenzie Pouliot (600), Jane Healey (2-mile) and Jaydin Simpson (high jump).{/div}
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Ipswich 47, Salem 13: Moving with one victory of officially qualifying for the state tournament, the Tigers (now 9-8) got 15 points from freshman Victoria Eaton and eight point from sophomore Zao Scarano in their win. Captains Julia Hubbard (6 points) and Keira McPartlin (5 points) also played well for Ipswich, which got another four points and strong work rebounding from center Lily Cummins.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Ruth Batson Academy 65, Essex Tech 46: Down by just seven at halftime, the Hawks (now 9-7) weren’t able to mount a comeback against their visitors from Dorchester.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Bishop Fenwick 4, Boston Latin 1: Reese Robillard scored twice and assisted on another as the Crusaders (4-9-1) equaled last season’s win total with a home triumph. Kailey Tinkham and Brianna Polley also scored, Reagan Van Horn had two helpers and Kat Ordway had her first varsity point with an assist.
Gloucester 4, Marblehead 0: Nola Ferraresso made 21 saves and Nola Conley and Lilian Wilkens played well but the Lady Headers (4-10-1) were plagued by penalties, taking eight in all. Gloucester’s Keagan Jewell had two goals and an assist to become the first player in program history to reach 100 career points.
Newburyport 2, Masconomet 1: Senior captain Madie Dupuis scored with an assist from freshman Kayleigh LeColst, but the Chieftains weren’t able to get another and fell to 4-10-1 on the season.
WRESTLING
Winchester 66, Marblehead/Swampscott 12: Kenny Drollette won his match for the Black-and-Blue at 113 pounds while Xavier Tejada also prevailed at 285. Liam O’Brien had a sensational match in a 12-5 decision defeat in a battle of two of the top grapplers in the state at 138.
St. John’s Prep 59, Salem 15: Winners for the Eagles were Collin Vitale (106), Jordan Reis (113), Graham Conway (132), Jimmy Lally (144), Will LaValle (150), Ryan Ofilos (157), Charlie Poor (165), Octavio DeOliveira (175), Sam Josey (190), Bryant Mason (215) and Jaxson Tammaro (285).
Saugus/Peabody 76, Malden/Everett 6: Peabody natives Chris Brown (126 lbs.), Casey Medeiros (138), Michael Maraio (150), JJ Figueroa (190) and Matt Dresser (285) all secured Wednesday night wins for their co-operative squad. Others picking up victories included Jake Murray (120), Lukas Fondulis (144), Justin Bremberg (157), Cesar Cruz (165) and Miguel Mendoza (175).
MEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Salem State 6, Rivier 1: Nick Sweet had a pair of first period goals while teammate Ryan Barrett added two of his own (one on the power play) in the second as the Vikings took care of business at home. Carson Whitman and Ryan Barrett also lit the lamp for SSU (now 6-12-3) while goalie Will Nepveu turned aside 30 shots. Seamus Cummings, Mitch Wilkie and Zach Dill had two assists each for the winners.
