THOMASVILLE – A Thomasville High freshman is the fastest 100-meter hurdler in Class 3A. Makayla Clark achieved the feat during last weekend’s state finals race in Albany, Georgia. She set a school record with a time of 14.79 seconds.
Thomasville High track and field coach Chris Guyton talked about his young sprinter’s achievement and believes this is just the beginning.
“Winning a state championship is a remarkable accomplishment for anyone. Doing it as a freshman makes it an even more notable achievement,” Guyton said. “Makayla possesses a natural talent and skill set that doesn’t come along often. It’s going to be fun watching her grow and continue to get better over the next three years. I predict more state championships for her, and they will not just be in the 100-meter hurdles.
“Makayla has progressed this year as we expected, up to region. Once she reached region competition, she focused even more and started to make her presence known.”
Also excelling at state was Kaden Walker. He finished 11th overall in the state 100-meter dash with a time of 10.98 seconds.
