When the latest MIAA power rankings came out on Friday morning, Pentucket still found itself sitting at No. 4 in Division 3.
But after what happened this weekend, that will definitely go up.
With senior captain Molly LeBel putting together three more excellent efforts in the circle, Pentucket was able to stay undefeated with three more wins. The Panthers (12-0) earned back-to-back crushing victories over Manchester Essex, 25-0, and Newburyport, 20-0, on Thursday and Friday, then were able to take down Essex Tech on Sunday in a make-up game, 12-8.
LeBel tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts against the Hornets on Thursday, while the one run she allowed was unearned. Offensively freshman Kam Bonneau continued her torrid pace, going 5-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI. Kallie White also blasted a homer as part of her 3-for-5 day, and Kayla Murphy (3-for-3), Sarah Freitas, Caitlin McCoy and Ciara Penne all had at least two hits.
Then a day later, LeBel scattered just three hits with eight strikeouts in a shutout of Newburyport. Bonneau again homered as part of a 3-for-3 day, and both Murphy and Michaela Gabardi (4 RBI) had four hits. For the Clippers (3-8), Sophie Lavallee, Lilah Thompson and Katie Kebler had the team’s lone three hits.
Finally, on Sunday, it was Bonneau closing out an incredible weekend with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double, triple, another home run and three RBI. White went 3-for-5 with four RBI, and both Evelyn Howell (HR) and McCoy had two hits. Then in the circle, LeBel had seven strikeouts while only one of the runs she allowed was earned.
TRITON: Penniman wins pitcher’s duel against Lynnfield
In its second pitcher’s duel in a row, Triton was able to come out with a win.
Emma Penniman and the Vikings welcomed in Lynnfield on Friday afternoon, and were able to walk out with the 3-0 shutout victory. The senior was electric in the circle once again, completing the one-hitter with 16 strikeouts to go against just one walk. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate, helping her own cause with an RBI-single in the bottom of the third inning.
Elsewhere in the win for Triton (6-4), both Maggie Rennick and Maddie January went 2-for-4, and Jillian Giusto, Addi Ewell and Ava Johnson all had hits. Up next, the Vikings have a big one when they travel over to rival North Reading on Monday (4:30 p.m).
AMESBURY: LeBlanc smacks another HR in win
Lexi LeBlanc was already the area leader in home runs as is stood.
But the senior captain only added to her lead over the weekend, smacking her fifth homer of the season to help Amesbury beat Ipswich, 7-4. It was part of a 1-for-4 day for LeBlanc, and in the circle Alex Donnell scattered four hits and had eight strikeouts while going to distance.
Leadoff hitter Hope Shanahan stayed hot for Amesbury (4-4), going 2-for-4, and Celia Tavares was also 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Harper Walker had two hits as well for the Redhawks, who will next host Manchester Essex on Monday at 4 p.m.
GEORGETOWN: Thomson earns first win
It was a softball game with a football final score.
With freshman Brooke Thomson getting her first career start in the circle, she was able to earn her first career win in a slugfest victory over Rockport, 31-12. The offense certainly gave her plenty of run support, with Talya Mariani in particular going 3-for-3 with three home runs and eight RBI.
Georgetown crushed six total homers on the day, with Maddie Grant (4-for-4), Ellie Barbarick (2-for-3) and Gillien Figueroa (4-for-6) also hitting one over the fence. The Royals (10-1), who are ranked No. 6 in Division 5 and will travel to Hamilton-Wenham on Monday, had 27 total hits on the day.
GOVERNOR’S: Winning streak comes to an end
Coming into the weekend, Governor’s Academy was on a roll having won three straight.
Unfortunately, that’s where the streak would end.
The Govs fought back to within a run in the top of the sixth inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback in a 9-5 loss to Noble & Greenough. Merrimac native Angelina Moroz went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and leadoff hitter Cat Johnson of Wayland also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Oliva Brown of Middleton had a two-run double, and Auburndale native Annette Matsuyasu had the team’s final hit of the day.
