Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church is renewing their tradition of presenting a free performance of the Christmas portion of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah.
The professional orchestra & soloists will be joined by a chorus from the community. The Christmas section of Messiah has some of the most exciting arias and choruses including everyone’s favorite, the Hallelujah Chorus.
The program is scheduled for 3 p.m. Dec. 1 at the church at 231 Westchester Dr.
Handel’s Messiah tells the awe-inspiring story of Jesus of Nazareth’s life, all set to music with the lyrics from various Books of the Bible.
This magnificent composition will be conducted by Dana Beal. Beal has a Master of Music with a major in conducting and currently directs Plateau Women’s Chorus and the Young Singers community chorus.
Admission is free to the public as a gift to the community.
Joining the orchestra are four professional soloists. They are soprano, Emma Ledbetter; alto, Crystal Lee; tenor, Kevin Salter; bass, Randy Bright.
The chorus is made up of the best volunteer and trained singers in the area. Orchestra members are professionals from the surrounding area and contracted by David Odegaard.
To be a part of the choir, singers should have previous experience singing Messiah. Singers will be provided with a score if needed and vocal tracks on a CD or flash drive.
Those wishing to be part of the choir must be able to attend most of the rehearsals at the church.
