The Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library offers many fun and free programs every month. I want to make sure you know about a few coming up.
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, the library has multiple programs going on. There will be something for everyone.
At 4 p.m., Miss Jillian will host a Halloween storytime. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be indoor trick-or-treating.
At 4:30 p.m., Miss Vivi will host TnT Art: Memorial Painting. Tweens and teens are invited to personalize a custom frame to house a treasured photo or paint a portrait of a deceased loved one or pet. Participants are encouraged to bring a 4×6 photo to include in their frame or to use as a reference. All supplies provided.
From 5 to 7 p.m.everyone is invited to celebrate Dia de los Muertos at the library. This all-ages event features crafts, storytelling and a community ofrenda (offering table). Discover the rich traditions of this vibrant holiday as we honor loved ones and share in the joy of remembrance.
We will finish out the month with Sugar Skull Cookie Decorating on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 5:30 p.m. This program is for adults. You will learn the art of decorating skull-shaped sugar cookies with royal icing. All supplies provided.
If you are thinking that is all you would be wrong. Besides all of the wonderful programs in the library, we have programs outside of the library and some wonderful partnerships to share.
The Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library is teaming up with Dalton Parks and Recreation to host two free Bilingual Storytime events for the community. The events are free and will be offered in both English and Spanish.
— Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at Brookwood Park (theme: Halloween).
— Saturday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at Civitan Park (theme: falling leaves).
The Derrell C. Roberts Library of Dalton State College and the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library announced the launch of the One Community Reads program in September. This exciting initiative invites all community members to come together by reading and discussing the same book over the coming months. The goal is simple: to foster unity, dialogue and a love of reading.
The book selected for fall 2024 is “Difficult Conversations: How to Discuss What Matters Most “by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton and Sheila Heen.
Whether dealing with a challenging co-worker or a family member or simply saying “No,” “I’m sorry” or “I love you,” we all have conversations that cause anxiety and frustration. Based on almost 30 years of research, “Difficult Conversations” walks you through a step-by-step approach on how to have your toughest conversations with less stress and more success.
