MALONE — Patricia Angus, a divisional clerk at The Alice Center, recalls the excitement of preparing the new facility for residents 10 years ago.
She and a dedicated team of colleagues ensured that they felt at home and the care team supported in the state-of-the-art center. The Alice Center, part of the University of Vermont Health Network, opened its doors on April 15, 2015, marking a new chapter in Alice Hyde Medical Center and the Malone community’s long history of caring.
The Alice Center replaced the Alice Hyde Nursing Home and the Franklin County Nursing Home, following years of financial struggles and a shared commitment by AHMC and county officials to continue to deliver excellent care to those in need.
The advanced skilled nursing and rehabilitative care center includes 135 skilled nursing beds and 30 assisted living beds, offering 24-hour nursing services and a full range of rehabilitation services.
Jerry Dumas, director of Emergency Management at Alice Hyde Medical Center, was part of the team that planned the opening and relocation of residents.
“We set up an incident command center and worked in partnership with Franklin County,” he said.
“We even had support from community agencies like Citizens Advocates, and local ambulance services. It was an amazing time.” After many months of planning, the move was executed in coordinated stages to ensure smooth transitions.
Angus helped to ensure that each care base was fully stocked for the staff.
“We were excited, and the residents were nervous. But they make my day easier. I love helping them and am proud to work here,” she said.
“For a decade, this team has set a high standard of care. They take great pride in their work, and it shows,” said Susan Biondolillo, Vice President of Long Term Care. The 10-year milestone was celebrated with various festivities, including a staff BBQ and a food truck.
Chantelle Marshall, AHMC director of philanthropy, added that from the very beginning, community support has been a key factor in The Alice Center’s ability to offer residents exceptional care in a warm, home-like environment.
“The unwavering support from our community has significantly enhanced The Alice Center, helping us create a wonderful environment with outdoor spaces, engaging activities, and advanced healthcare technology to support our residents’ care. The dedication and generosity of our donors continues to play a crucial role in enriching the lives of those we care for. This milestone reflects that collective effort and the commitment of our staff, residents, and supporters.”
Marshall invited anyone wishing to celebrate The Alice Center’s 10th anniversary, support the great work of the staff and enrich the lives of residents to donate at www.AliceHyde.org. Pavers are also available to purchase and offer a unique way to honor someone special while supporting the center.
