The college baseball season is at the midway point, and here locally The Eagle-Tribune has a long list of athletes who have made big impacts on their respective teams. We wanted to highlight some of the players and have a little fun with it. Below is one star from each position:
C: Tommy McAndrews (Fordham)
The Haverhill resident and former Phillips Academy star is off to a terrific start for the Division 1 program. The junior has a .302 batting average with two home runs and 10 RBI, which comes a year after batting .229. In his last three games, he has combined to go 6-for-14 with a home run and four RBI.
1B: Jackson Marshall (SNHU)
The 2024 Eagle-Tribune Player of the Year at Pinkerton has continued to swing a hot bat for the Penmen (16-8) with a .388 average, five home runs and 29 RBI, while having 35 hits in just 24 games. He leads the team in home runs, RBIs, total bases (59), slugging percentage (.621) and hit by pitch (11).
2B: Luis Tejeda (Rivier)
The Methuen resident, who has played all over the infield throughout his career, is batting .300 with two home runs and 14 RBI. He currently is enjoying a seven-game hitting streak.
3B: Tyler Normandie (Worcester State)
The former Central Catholic star, who originally attended San Joaquin Delta College, is off to an impressive start batting .327 with one home run and a team-leading 18 RBI. He also leads the team in hits (18). He has hit safely in 13 of 15 starts for the 12-4 Lancers.
SS: John Bessett (Westfield State)
The Andover native is batting .385 with two home runs and seven RBI, while helping the Owls to a 14-5 start. Back on March 28 in a win over Mass Maritime, he was 3 for 4 with four RBI.
LF: Kevin Matos (Wheaton College)
The senior from Lawrence, who graduated from the Berkshire School, has been crushing the ball. He is batting .351 with six home runs and 20 RBI, which comes after a junior year where he finished with a .259 average with three home runs. Back on March 27, he went 3 for 4 with three home runs in the team’s 12-3 win over Rhode Island College.
CF: Tommy Ahlers (Keene State)
An incredible athlete from Salem, N.H., with a track background, Ahlers is utilizing his speed. He leads the team in average (.429), hits (33), triples (3), RBI (18), slugging percentage (.605), OPS (1.045), on-base percentage (.440) and stolen bases (8). He also has two home runs to his credit for the Owls (8-12).
RF: Jacob Hurrell (Fitchburg State)
The Haverhill resident is also off to an impressive start at the plate with a .316 average, one home run, 13 RBI and has also swiped five bases. His home run came as part of a 4-for-5 performance, including a triple, in a loss to Gordon College.
DH: Kyle Wolff (Boston College)
The junior from Andover, who played high school ball at the Middlesex School, is leading the Eagles with four home runs and has knocked in 19. He also leads the team by being hit by a pitch 13 times. He had a pair of home runs in an earlier season win over USC Upstate.
Pitcher: Lukasz Rondeau (University of Dayton)
The former Central Catholic star, who did a postgrad year last year at Austin Prep and threw a perfect game, has been terrific as a reliever. In eight appearances, he has a 1-0 record with a 1.29 ERA and one save. In seven innings of work, he has struck out ten batters.
