Thomasville Entertainment Foundation is giving families an opportunity to introduce their children to classical music, string instruments and one of the world’s greatest and most enduring composers in a fun, interactive and free one-hour performance on Saturday, March 25.
Entitled “Meeting Mozart,” the performance invites children to join the mischievous musical genius, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and his muse and wife, Constanze, on a journey to discover some of Mozart’s best known and beloved music – from variations on “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” to his large-scale orchestral pieces. Curtain time is 11 a.m. next Saturday at the Thomasville Center for the Arts.
Coming to Thomasville from Australia’s Sydney Opera House, where it played to rave reviews from young people, parents and teachers alike, “Meeting Mozart” introduces children to the instruments, scores and themes behind the music and life of one of the world’s most celebrated musicians.
Led by actors Conor Neylon as Mozart and Emily Taylor as Constanza, the theatrical production also features a string quartet of professional musicians from this area. Guest musicians include Aaron Seiler, violin; Joy Tedford, violin; Pamela Ryan, viola; Jenna Bachmann, cello; and Boyan Bonev, double bass.
“We’ve been working to bring this performance to Thomasville since before the pandemic began interrupting plans – especially international travel – so we are excited to finally be able to bring this fun, engaging and interactive show to our community,” said TEF Executive & Artistic Director Rick Ivey. “We hope parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles will take advantage of an opportunity to introduce their children and families to important and enduring music in a fun and relaxed setting.”
Thomasville’s local independent book store, The Bookshelf, will be on hand with a special event pop-up shop, featuring books on Mozart, other composers and classical music for a variety of ages, including preschoolers and elementary students who are the primary focus audience for this show.
Like all TEF Family Series programs, “Meeting Mozart” is offered free and open to the public with no ticket or reservation required, thanks to generous donations in honor of Janice Faircloth by the Parker Poe Charitable Trust, Emily and Bill Searcy Charitable Trust, Dr. and Mrs. Douglas C. McPherson, Diane Williams Parker and other friends of TEF.
The performance is presented in conjunction with Thomasville Center for the Arts, and “Meeting Mozart” is a production of CDP Theatre Producers of Sydney, Australia.
