TRAVERSE CITY — A seven-run eighth inning propelled the Traverse City Pit Spitters to an 8-4 win over the visiting Royal Oak Leprechauns.
Alfredo Vazquez and newcomer Josh Polubinksi each had two hits and two RBI in Tuesday’s Northwoods League baseball game at Turtle Creek Stadium in Traverse City.
Both of Polubinksi’s hits were doubles. The 6-foot-4 first baseman plays at Western Michigan, where former Spitters manager Josh Rebandt now coaches (former Spitters player Glenn Miller is also an assistant coach there). Polubinksi hit .266 with three homers and 16 RBI in 38 games in his first season at WMU after two seasons at Fort Scott Community College.
The Spitters pulled back to .500 at 8-8 heading into Wednesday’s off day before venturing out for a six-game road trip.
Ethan Guerra and Cole Van Ameyde had TC’s other hits, with Guerra hitting a solo home run to lead off the 7-run barrage in the eighth.
Nathan Webb tossed the first four innings, scattering five hits while not allowing a run.
Max Hammond gave up three earned runs in 2.2 frames before Miles Williams and Jackson Militello each struck out three to close out the win. Williams earned his second relief win of the season, both against Royal Oak.
