The Manchester Essex football team will host Rockland on Friday night (6:30 p.m.) for their season opener at Hyland Field — and there’s a bit of an added incentive for anyone planning to attend.
In partnering with Beverly Bootstraps, the school will host a “Tackle Hunger Food Drive” at the game for the second straight year. Fans that bring a box of cereal, pasta or jar of peanut butter (no glass) will get into the football game at a discounted price.
According to Beverly Bootstraps development coordinator Deb Ploszay, “Last year’s event was a success in two ways: it helped with very needed donations to help stock the Beverly Bootstraps pantry shelves and helped people better understand that Beverly Bootstraps serves residents of Manchester and Essex.”
