TRAVERSE CITY – Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson swept into Traverse City Sunday to talk to residents who gathered in the pavilion near the Civic Center.
A Bridge story says he moonlights as a motivational speaker.
That seems likely from the energetic presentation he gave Sunday afternoon to a group of Democrats in the pavilion near the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.
Swanson is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor in the Aug. 4 primary.
And he’s confident he’ll achieve that goal, even though The Detroit News reported last week that, according to a new statewide poll, his contender, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, has a 60-percentage-point lead over him.
“Money in the bank doesn’t win elections,” Swanson said, adding, “…This is where you work it.”
His arm swept out to indicate the people who came to hear him speak.
“We’re going to win by 6 to 8 points,” he declared, saying that he needs 566,000 votes and that he’s going to get them.
The polls don’t tell the story, he said.
“You’re going to see something historic happen in 15 days – and I’m going to restore some faith,” Swanson added. “Trust me, my phone will always be open. Watch.
“That’s what makes me different.”
