The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team won its first SUNYAC Championship team title on Saturday at the 2025 SUNYAC Championships in Cortland.
Oneonta finished tied for first place with Cortland at 141 points, with team scores being determined by each school’s highest scorer in each weight class.
The Red Dragons had eight wrestlers earn a top-six finish with four receiving All-SUNYAC honors and one receiving the SUNYAC Elite 20 award. The top two finishers in each class received all-conference honors.
Jack Ryan was the champion at 184 pounds after going 4-0 on the day with three wins coming by pin. He defeated Ithaca’s Xavier Pommells in the first-place match by a 5-1 decision.
Avery Leonard (149 pounds), Mason Rappold (165) and Carson LiCastri (197) all earned all-conference honors after finishing second in their respective classes.
Placing third for Oneonta were Danny Poggi (133), Kenneth Sauer (174) and Kennith Jackson (285). Matt Coffey (165) added a sixth-place finish.
Gabriel Camillieri was honored as the SUNYAC Elite 20 co-winner. Modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, the Elite 20 award recognizes individuals who combine on-field and academic excellence. Camillieri currently has a 3.94 cumulative GPA with a major in business administration.
Saturday’s victory comes in a season in which the Red Dragons also won the NYS Collegiate Championship team title for the first time in November. Oneonta is currently ranked 15th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) tournament rankings and eighth in TheOpenMat tournament team rankings.
Oneonta is 12-1 in dual matches this season and will be back in action this Saturday at the John Reese Duals at Wilkes University.
