COOPERSTOWN — Fenimore Farm & Country Village in Cooperstown announced its annual Sugaring Off Sundays season will begin March 2.
According to a news release, the weekly event begins March 2 and continues each Sunday through March 30 offering contemporary and historic maple sugaring demonstrations, activities for children and free rides on the Empire State Carousel. A pancake breakfast including sausage and home fries will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features local syrup provided by Otsego County maple producers. All other activities run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will feature jack wax, which is hot maple syrup poured over snow. Children can learn how to tap maple trees. Learn to play Snow Snake, a traditional Haudenosaunee game played during the winter. Visit historic Bump Tavern and talk with the interpreters. Watch craftspeople in the Blacksmith Shop creating a waffle maker based on an example found in our collection. Make a stop at the pharmacy or print shop. Wagon rides around the historic village run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (weather permitting). Visit the animals in the farm area. Todd’s General Store will be open with hand-crafted items. On the way out, visit the Fenimore Farm Store for maple products and souvenirs the whole family will love. Both museum stores are open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Otsego County maple producers will be on-site to talk about maple sugaring and offer local maple products for sale.
Sugaring Off Sundays are held March 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Admission prices: adults/teens 13+: $15 or $14 for members, children 6-12: $10 or $9 for members, 5 and under are admitted free. Price includes admission to museum, maple sugaring demonstrations and a pancake breakfast. Reservations are not required.
