SALEM — Beverly Bootstraps’ former Executive Director Sue Gabriel is taking over the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem from the organization’s current leader, Joanne Scott.
“It has been the honor of my life leading the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem, in fact my blood runs blue!” Scott said in a statement from the organization. “It is time for, as they say in politics, a new generation of leadership. I am so excited to see what opportunities develop for our members with a new person in the lead.”
Scott has served as the executive director of the local Boys & Girls Club chapter since 2008. In her time with the organization, she used her previous experience as the Salem health agent to support at-risk youth and provide a safe space for children and teens, according to the statement.
“Joanne Scott has been a force of positive change for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem and the community at large,” Board President Susan Ulbrich said. “Her dedication to the mission, her tireless work ethic and her passion for making a difference have set an incredibly high bar for what it means to lead.”
Gabriel is entering Scott’s former role after stepping down from Beverly Bootstraps this spring. She has 25 years of nonprofit experience, and formerly worked as the development director at the Beverly School of the Deaf.
Gabriel has also been a part of Rotary, the Fisher and Fuel Fund in Beverly and the Affordable Housing Trust in Beverly.
“I am incredibly excited to serve an organization with such a strong, compelling mission,” Gabriel said in the statement. “Helping children have opportunities is worthy of my passion, energy and hard work. I look forward to working closely with the community to build our future.”
In honor of Scott’s time with the Boys & Girls Club, the organization asks that donations be made at www.bgcgs.org or through the mail to Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem, PO Box 24, Salem, MA 01970.
