NEWFANE — Recently, students from Orleans/Niagara BOCES’ Godfrey Learning Center went out to work in the community. Students chose to work at either Northern Pier Restaurant in Olcott or Packard Meadows Horse Farm in Burt.
At the restaurant, students were given a job to complete that would help the owners, Brian Keleher and Jessica Christie, which consisted of wiping the booths, cleaning the windows, vacuuming the carpet and cleaning table tops. The owners provided the students with stickers and candy afterward.
At the horse farm, students helped by brushing and feeding the horses. This was their second trip to Packard Meadows during the current school year.
Owner Ginny O’Malley and her volunteers are supportive of students who have an interest in working with animals.
According to Lisa Bielmeier, director of public relations for Orleans/Niagara BOCES, the point of these activities is to give students an opportunity to experience employment and learn what skills are necessary to be successful in the workforce.
