The Gloucester Student Band went on a performance tour last week, ending with a stop at Polar Park to play before a crowd assembled to watch a Worcester Red Sox baseball game.
Thirty-four student musicians from Gloucester in grades 4-12 representing 10 different schools on the North Shore performed at Thursday’s WooSox game. The game was the fourth and last stop on the band’s second Annual Summer Tour, said Jamie Klopotoski, the Gloucester Elementary School band director who volunteers her time to direct the band.
This year’s tour took the band, a new 501c3 nonprofit not affiliated with city schools, to the Worcester area “where we stayed for three days and two nights,” she said.
The Gloucester Student Band kicked off the tour with concert at The Cut in Gloucester on Aug. 3.
On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the group left Gloucester to perform at The Overlook Retirement Community in Charlton, and then the Pappas Recreation Complex in Auburn. Last Wednesday, the band performed an animal-themed set at the Southwick Zoo in Mendon; and on Thursday, the band performed the national anthem at the baseball game in Worcester’s Polar Park.
Members stayed overnight at the Pakachoag Center in Auburn.
The touring group received grants from the Gloucester Cultural Council and the Awesome Gloucester Foundation. For details about the band, visit http://www.gloucesterstudentband.com. For tickets for The Cut performance, visit thecutlive.com.
