The MSTCA Heptathlon North Championship was held earlier in the week, and a handful of local track athletes shined over the seven-event competition.
For the girls, Newburyport superstar Devin Stoope won the championship with 3,933 points, placing first out of 71 athletes thanks to top-10s in all but two events. The junior actually won an impressive three out of the seven events, placing first in the 200-meter (26.95), 800 (2:24.62) and javelin (98-8). She then rounded out her championship with a fourth in the long jump (16-8.50), ninth in the high jump (4-7), 11th in shot put (25-4) and 22nd in the 100-hurdles (18.42).
But Stroope wasn’t the only Clipper to compete.
Fellow junior Laney Schwab is enjoying a terrific spring track season for the Clippers, and finished eighth out the 71 athletes with 3,536 points. The meet was highlighted by her win in the high jump (5-1), and she also was fourth in the shot put (27-3.50), 13th in the hurdles (17.62) and 14th in the javelin (72-8).
Elsewhere on the girls’ side, a trio of Pentucket athletes competed as well.
