CUMBERLAND — High winds and heavy rain Sunday downed trees and electrical lines at various locations in Allegany County, according to the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.
No injuries were reported at any of the locations, including state Route 36 south of Lonaconing that was shut down for eight hours by downed high-tension lines.
Various volunteer fire companies handled the incidents that created outages at times until repairs were completed by Potomac Edison crews.
A tornado watch was posted for the area early Sunday afternoon remained in effect until 7 p.m.
“Because Allegany County was under a tornado watch, we did not staff fire and EMS stations. We staff those locations if the alert goes to a warning status,” said Roger Bennett, acting director of the Department of Emergency Services.
State Highway Administration personnel also responded to the incidents along with various volunteer fire companies upon alert by the Allegany County 911 emergency center.
