NEWBURYPORT — Storm Surge is hosting Emma Gildesgame, climate adaptation director at The Nature Conservancy in Massachusetts, for a free public talk titled “Making Space for Water: Reimagining Our Relationship to the Coast” on Tuesday, April 7, at the Newburyport Senior/Community Center, 331 High St., Newburyport. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and socializing.
Gildesgame will discuss coastal relocation as one tool in the broader toolkit of climate adaptation strategies. She will explain what relocation looks like in practice, address common misconceptions, and share insights from community listening sessions she has led in coastal towns across eastern Massachusetts. The talk will also cover emerging state initiatives, including a statewide buyout program currently being explored by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
Storm Surge is an all-volunteer climate education organization based in Newburyport.
