Stonehaus Winery owner Bob Ramsey announced Monday the sale of its property is complete, and its retail operations will end and close Dec. 31, 2025.
He said the family will move its winemaking and wholesale operations to a new location in Smithville, TN, closer to their children and grandchildren.
“We are very grateful for our loyal employees and customers,” Ramsey said in a statement sent to the Chronicle.
Ramsey said Stonehaus wines would continue to be available for purchase after Dec. 31 at wine and grocery stores throughout Tennessee.
Stonehaus Winery has been in business in Crossville for 35 years.
Stonehaus was founded by Fay Wheeler and Ramsey.
Wheeler and Ramsey started the first winery in Tennessee, Highland Manor in Jamestown, TN, in 1980. They sold the winery, and he and Ramsey started Stonehaus Winery in 1990. Wheeler passed away in 2022.
Ramsey said the other businesses located on the property, Brambleberry Cafe and Antiques and The Briar Patch, would have to move from the property in 90 days.
Ramsey said Weigel’s had made an offer on the Stonehaus Winery property, and they had agreed on a contract. In September, the Crossville Planning Commission approved a site plan for the company.
The Weigel’s gas station will be at the current location of Stonehaus Winery on Genesis Road across the street from the Pilot gas station.
According to the Weigel’s site plan, it will be 6,605 square feet facility, with 50 parking spaces and a car wash.
The station will have 10 gas pumps.
Earlier this year Weigel’s also purchased the Chestnut Hill Winery property on Peavine Road.
