The Highland Brigade of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Saufley’s Roses Chapter 36 will host a banquet honoring the life and memory of Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Cumberland County Community Complex.
The Complex is at 1398 Livingston Road, Crossville. The banquet is a potluck, and all guests are welcome and encouraged to bring a dish to share. There is no cost to attend.
State Rep. Ed Butler, R-Rickman, is the keynote speaker. He represents District 41 — which includes Overton, Morgan and parts of Anderson, Fentress and Roane counties — in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
“Rep. Butler is a leading voice in Tennessee in preserving our heritage and history,” said Jimmy Vincent, Highland Brigade commander.
Butler is a self-employed small businessman, U.S. Navy veteran, active member of Livingston Life Church and has served several years on the Executive Board of Adult and Teen Challenge of the Upper Cumberland.
“The Sons of Confederate Veterans, is a nonprofit, historical honor society and charitable organization,” Vincent said. “Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans (“SCV”) is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces.”
He added, “Members of the SCV meet regularly to learn more about the War Between the States, conduct cemetery cleanups, and honor the memory of the Confederate soldier. There has never been a more important time than now to stand up and get involved with the preservation of our unique history and culture!”
Vincent said a number of Sons of Confederate Veterans camps throughout the Upper Cumberland meet regularly.
“Please join us for a fun evening of fellowship and good Southern cooking!” he added.
