Three New York state football games originally scheduled for today have been moved to Sunday as Central New York prepares for the largest snowstorm of the winter so far.
Today’s 8-man regional state final and the Class A and Class D west semifinal, featuring Newfane against Tioga, are the only games affected. The games will still be played at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.
Weather reports indicate winter weather will hit hard today and Saturday: Up to a foot of snow could pile up across the region while temperatures hover around 30 degrees.
Oswego and Onondaga counties are expected to get the most snow, with most areas getting 7 to 14 inches of snow.
Saturday’s Class AA, B and C state semifinal games will not be changed. They will be played at C-NS High School as well.
All of the East region state semifinals at Middletown High School will be played as originally scheduled.
The only Section III team affected by Friday’s postponement is Morrisville-Eaton. The Mavericks were set to face Section IX’s Eldred in the 8-man regional championship. That game was moved to Sunday at 11 a.m.
The only other Section III team playing football this weekend is two-time defending state champion Christian Brothers Academy. The Brothers will face Section VI’s Bennett/Olmsted/Middle Early College/East at 6 p.m. Saturday.
