BEEKMANTOWN — Will Recor’s chance to photograph Wednesday’s partial eclipse was another disappointment after 2024’s total eclipse miss.
“I was thinking like wow, another one in a matter of two years. I was thinking, wow I can another shot at it. Because last time when we had that total eclipse, I forgot to take off the solar cap to actually get a good picture of it. So, I didn’t get a real picture of it, but I got the video. I was hoping for that this time, but sadly the clouds got in the way,” he said.
In Beekmantown, the 15-year-old stepped out at 11:25 with his telescope, a Celestron Nexstar.
“I was recording until 11:40, and I didn’t get much at all,” he said.
Recor captured images of Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS (C/2023 A3) last fall. His astral observations and documentation are part of his end game.
“I’m just going out here and then seeing what I can capture, seeing what is available and being offered to me. I’m getting real-life experiences towards my future career. I’m hoping to go to college to get a degree in aerospace engineering or astronomics, primarily, an astrophysicist.”
If the weather holds, Recor will step out again with his telescope in hand.
“I heard there is a meteor shower tonight. I believe there should be,” he said.
