The Starpoint Music Department will present a 40th anniversary concert with the Erie County Wind Ensemble at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Starpoint Middle School Auditorium, 4363 Mapleton Road. Admission is free to all members of the general public.
The Erie County Wind Ensemble was founded as the Erie County Music Educators Wind Ensemble in 1983. It evolved into a mixed group of musicians of various occupational backgrounds from the Western New York area. Described as a “virtuosic and resilient group,” the ensemble’s objective is to perform the best wind band literature at an exemplary level to a wide range of audiences, with a special outreach to school musicians.
The Starpoint High School Band, conducted by Karen Russo, and the Starpoint High School Wind Ensemble, conducted by Michael Volpe, will perform in addition.
Volpe is a member of the Erie County Wind Ensemble and he says Starpoint students are looking forward to the concert finale, which is a side-by-side performance between the Starpoint musicians and the Erie County Wind Ensemble.
