ONEONTA — A staged reading of “The Gift of the Magi” will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the First United Methodist Church at 66 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.
According to a media release, the Giving Tuesday benefit for the Friends of Christmas Community Dinner presented by Saturday’s Bread, will be directed by actor and playwright Patrick Breen. Free-will donations will be accepted.
The classic tale is described as one of love and sacrifice. The short story by O. Henry was first published in 1905. It tells of a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money.
The cast includes Victoriana Alfonso, Emily Begin, John Charmard, Rachel Hansen, Sarah Izzo, Sean Lewis, Carmela Marner, Sarah Patterson, Gary Stevens, Casey Thomas, George Wells and the Magi Carolers.
More carolers are needed to join the performance.
