A man who police say stabbed a 50-year-old Dalton woman Friday afternoon before turning the knife on himself is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony, said city of Dalton Communications Director Bruce Frazier.
Frazier said more charges are possible.
According to police, the stabbing happened shortly after 4 p.m. at the Roses store at 1205 Glenwood Ave. Police say Terry Lee Chamlee, 67, of Calhoun, stabbed the woman inside the store several times. The suspect tried to leave the area on foot but was “confronted” in the parking lot next to the Kroger gas station by a Dalton police officer. Police say the suspect began to stab himself in the chest. He fell and was arrested and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
“Both the victim and suspect are alive and stable,” said Frazier.
Frazier said the woman was still in a hospital at last report.
Chamlee “is alive and has been discharged from a hospital and is now in the custody of the Hamilton County, Tennessee, jail and awaiting extradition back to Dalton to face charges,” Frazier said. Chamlee was taken to Chattanooga for medical treatment.
Both crime scene locations were opened within a couple of hours of the incident and were open for business all weekend.
