A loaded St. John’s Prep ski team prepared for the state finals with an outstanding showing at the North Shore Ski League’s annual Interscholastic Race on Wednesday at Bradford.
The Eagles won the boys race with the lowest times in both the slalom, giant slalom and combined. Masconomet, which was the top boys public school and runner-up, topped both events and won the meet on the girls’ side.
For the Eagles, Owen McLain was first in the slalom and first in the combined results at 44.01 seconds after being second overall in the giant slalom. Teammates Victor Barnas (6th, 45.09), Dylan Pelletier (7th, 45.22) and Colton Friedlander (8th, 45.28) all finished in the top 10 overall for St. John’s Prep, and Trickett Anderson placed 15th with a combined time of 46.73 seconds.
Hamilton-Wenham’s Colin McCaughey won the GS in 22.36 seconds and came in third in the combined standings. The Generals were third as a team, with Sawyer Hancock (16th, 16.94 combined) also finishing in the top 20.
State qualifier David Palmer led Masconomet by coming in fourth in the combined individual standings (45.07). Nolan Zamagni (48.0) and Sam Gustafson (48.8) also excelled.
Both Emily Stearns and Hannah Mitchell also qualified for states while leading he Masconomet girls to victory. Stearns came in second place in the slalom and Mitchell was second the GS, with Stearns being third in the overall individual standings (46.16) and Mitchell fourth (46.71). Ada Paglierani also came in 12th for the Chieftains at 47.64.
Hamilton-Wenham got a superb performance by Evie Bernard, who came in seventh in the combined results at 47.15. Molly Ryan was 14th in a time of 41.84 as the Generals were fourth in the team competition.
