The Susquehanna SPCA is celebrating Adopt a Shelter Cat Month while at its maximum capacity for cat care. The shelter has a waiting list of others needing help, according to a SQSPCA news release.
Current adoptable cats range in age from kittens to seniors and have a wide variety of personalities. “Whether you are looking for a snuggly companion, an energetic playmate, an independent kitty or anything in between, they’re sure to have a great fit for you,” the release stated.
SQSPCA Executive Director Stacie Haynes said, “When we’re at our maximum capacity with a waiting list for cats, adopting one cat really means you are saving two. When you take your new family member home, you’re opening up a space for another in need.”
Haynes said there is an uptick in cats and kittens needing help in the spring, summer and fall months each year. “With kitten season in full swing, the shelter receives calls daily about more in need and depends on their community’s support to allow them to maximize their efforts,” the release stated.
“If you can’t adopt, please consider fostering,” Haynes said. Those unable to take a cat home are welcome to volunteer at the shelter.
The SQSPCA provides all of the necessary supplies, food, medical care and resources for foster pets, and foster families provide care and a safe environment for animals prior to adoption, according to the release. Those interested in fostering should email the shelter at info@sqspca.org or visit www.sqspca.org for more details.
The SQSPCA’s “friendly cat mascot” will join families in going-home photos on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month. according to the release.
The SQSPCA is open for visitors to interact with adoptable animals from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Available animals can be seen online anytime at www.sqspca.org.
