Saranac Lake High School Alumni Game will be December 26
SARANAC LAKE — These are Christmas traditions: Presents on Dec. 25, and Saranac Lake High School’s alumni hockey games on Dec. 26
The Saranac Lake Civic Center announced today that it will play host to the alumni games again this year — continuing the tradition for SLHS alums to hit the ice again on the day after Christmas. The women’s game will be at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3:30 p.m.
All past Saranac Lake players are eligible to participate and there is a $20 registration fee per player. Interested players are asked to pre-register on the Civic Center website.
The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the alumni game tradition, which was restored when the Civic Center reopened its doors last year.
“Alumni players from a variety of years participate every year,” Saranac Lake High School Principal Josh Dann said. “It’s a great tradition that has been around since I was a kid. Players enjoy coming back, lacing up the skates, having some fun and sharing stories about the good ole days playing High School hockey for Saranac Lake.”
Dann, a 1996 SLHS graduate and a past player himself, has played in the alumni game every year for the past 25+ years. In keeping with tradition, current players from this season’s SLHS teams are expected to participate as referees, timekeepers and scorekeepers.
There is no admission for fans to attend the game. Anyone who is interested in watching the games are encouraged to spectate.
