Methuen 3, Central Catholic 1
In a battle of two of the top teams in the area, the Rangers (6-2) came away with the four-set victory (19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 26-24).
Methuen was led by the performances of Kathryn Driend (27 assists, 17 service points with 4 aces), Gracye Neel (4 blocks), Caylee O’Brien (10 kills), Aalayah Cottoreal (7 kills) and Ella Duffy (15 digs).
“These girls get more impressive every day. I don’t care what other team practices look like. They show up every day and are the hardest working team. Total team effort volleyball and amazing leadership by our four captains,” said coach Matt Twomey.
Central Catholic (6-1) was led by Julie Hall with 25 digs and 13 kills, Bella Sierpina with eight kills and three blocks, Madison Blanchet with 35 assists, 15 service points and two aces, Sydney Faria with ten kills and her sister Alexia Faria with 22 digs.
Chelmsford 3, Haverhill 0
Lucy Martinez finished with 11 digs and three kills, while Abigail Mistretta (5 assists), Olivia Lesswing (4 aces) also played well for the Hillies.
Andover 3, Billerica 0
Naomi Vajda (14 kills, 21 service points and 4 aces) and Jessie Wang (16 kills) again led the Andover (6-0) offense. Ella Niles continued her great play with 22 service points and four aces, Tina Zheng was strong as the setter with 32 assists and Farah Berty provided the defense with 24 digs.
North Andover 3, Lawrence 1
Playing well for Lawrence were Chanel Jimenez (12 assists), Leah Torres (5 kills), Danieliz Santiago (5 service points), Jenalyalize Santana (13 digs) and Nathania Setiawan (3 aces).
Salem 3, Nashua North 2
Salem (4-1) earned the win in five sets behind the play of Riley Blanchet (23 assists, 10 kills, 7 aces, 8 digs), Michaela Dailey (10 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces, 6 digs), Hannah Woodring (16 digs) and Mia Contarino (10 kills, 3 aces, 8 digs)
Golf
Central Catholic 20, Haverhill 0
Held at the par-36 Atkinson Country Club, Central (5-1) was once again led by Harry Garland, who shot a 1-over par 37, winning his match 2up. Also winning their matches were Domenic Santo (1up), Liam Vena (4&3), Andrew Bolton (2up), Evan Smith (37, 2up), Logan Haley (4&3), Ryan Bergeron (3&1) and Ethan Letourneau (2&1).
Andover 11.5, Billerica 8.5
A hard fought match came down to the wire when Senior Captain Kathryn Ventura captured victory in her match to secure the win for Andover (4-1-1) on the final hole. Sophomore Boden Wood was clutch down the stretch with a birdie on the eighth hole to tie his match. Wood then won his match outright on the ninth hole.
Junior Rob Linehan and junior James Dunham won their matches handily with junior Vincent Giaimo also showing up on the score sheet.
North Andover 19, Methuen 1
Leading the way for the Scarlet Knights (2-3) were Tyler Fawaz (35), Sean Radulski (36) and Travis Callison who won his first varsity match.
Boys Soccer
Methuen 4, Andover 2
Methuen (3-0-3) were able to score 3 goals in the first half and were able to hang out despite a rally from the Golden Warriors. Yaseen Dakiri scored two goals, while Owen Reilly and Arthur Machado had the others. Braeden Kim assisted on two of the goals and Erik Delaney had one assist.
Matthew Mrabu had five saves in net for the win.
Girls Soccer
Andover 2, Methuen 0
Keira Brozgal scored two goals in the second half to lift Andover (1-0-3) to the victory. Kara Zugel picked up an assist and goalies Mikayla Deluca (1 save) and Paige Welsh combined for the shutout.
Goffstown 4, Salem 1
Aaliyah Hajjar scored her tenth goal of the season off a corner kick by Presley Marinelli, who recorded her sixth assist of the season, but Goffstown countered with three goals in the final 15 minutes.
Phillips Academy 6, Middlesex 0
The tandem of Wylie Roosien and Sarah Powers scored two goals each to lead Phillis (3-0) to the dominating win. Emma Sharon and Ashley Dimnaku had the other two tallies. Goalie Deli Russell recorded the shutout.
Field Hockey
Salem 1, Merrimack 0
Freshman Kenzie Marino scored the game winner, her first career goal on an assist from Piper Dezan to give the Blue Devils the win.
North Andover 3, Methuen 0
Kylie George found the back of the net twice and Elle Gordon added the other goal to lead the Scarlet Knights (2-2-2). Sofia Bea made three saves to earn the shutout.
Andover 6, Haverhill 0
Caroline Samaras (2), Maeve Savage, Maggie O’Handley, Brooke Barry and Caroline Vaughn scored the goals, while helpers went to Ella Sewall (2), Chloe Broderick, Savage and Samaras.
