Mass All-State Football Team
The Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association announced its Divisional All-State teams.
Area players selected in Division 1 were Central Catholic’s Brian Waller-Reitano (line), Andover’s Jackson Fuller (line/edge) and Henry Belscher (Specialist-Kicker), and Methuen’s Vinny DeMaio (linebacker) and Tim Dornezon (athlete).
Also named was St. John’s Prep quarterback Chris Vargas, who resides in Salem, N.H.
In Division 5, Gr. Lawrence’s Gustavo Varela was selected as one of the four running backs.
Baseball Umpiring Clinic
The Greater Lawrence Baseball Umpires Association is once again excited to offer training for anyone interested in becoming an MBUA “patched” Baseball Umpire! Successful completion of this course and associated training qualifies an umpire to work amateur baseball games from Little League up to and including men’s baseball leagues, as well as membership in the GLBUA and MBUA (for umpires over the age of 18). This course is open to all candidates aged 17 or older. Umpires over the age of 18are also eligible to work high school baseball in Massachusetts.
The classes will be held on Monday evenings beginning 1/26 from 6:00 p.m. -730p.m. at St. Michael’s School, 80 Maple Ave in North Andover. Cost: $140 payable by check or cash at the first class session. Class Dates: 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23; Exam Date: 3/2

Shannon, Lapp shine at Beanpot
The No. 7 Northeastern women’s hockey team dropped 2-1 in a hard-fought battle to Boston University in the 47th Dunkin’ Women’s Beanpot Semifinals played on Tuesday night. Trailing 1-0, Northeastern was able to tie it up thanks to a goal from senior Lily Shannon of Andover. The Terriers struck later for the game-winner.
In the other game, Harvard edged out Boston College, 2-1. Andover resident Gwynn Lapp assisted on the game-winning goal coming in the third period.
Harvard and BU will play for the championship on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.,) at the TD Garden.
Wolinski honored
North Andover resident Zach Wolinski, a sophomore guard at Wesleyan University, was named the MASCAC Player of the Week.
He posted a pair of 20+ point games to lead the Cardinals to a pair of double-digit road wins to kick off NESCAC play. Wolinski netted a career-high 26 points on 9-for-15 shooting and 3-of-6 from three to go along with five rebounds and two assists as the Cardinals led 40-15 at halftime against Williams before going on to win 84-71 in Williamstown.
The sophomore guard followed with a 22-point effort at Middlebury on 7-for-15 shooting as the Cardinals led by as many as 25 points in the first half before finishing off a convincing 86-62 win over the Panthers in Vermont.
