Nelson, Figueroa honored in Germany
Two local products, Tyler Nelson of Bradford and L.J. Figueroa of Lawrence, both playing in the German First Division basketball league (Basketball Bundesliga), took home second team honors in two different, sponsored All-League teams.
Nelson finished second on his Rostock Seawolves team, which finished 9-25, in scoring with 16.3 points a game. He ended the season scoring 22, 31, 23 and 20 points in four of his last five games.
He shot 42.1 percent from the 3-point arc and was 90.7 percent at the free throw line.
Figueroa’s big season saw the 6-foot-6 Lawrencian average 12.5 points and 3.3 rebounds as a small forward for Ulm, which finished 24-10.
Ex-Celtic the Finals MVP in Germany
There was more news from the German First Division league as former Boston Celtics sharpshooter Carsen Edwards took home the finals MVP with a 29-point performance in the clinching game for Bayern Munich, which was the top team in the regular season.
Edwards averaged 12.0 points for the champs and hit on 7 of 10 3-pointers in the clincher.
Edwards was a former first round pick by the Celtics who played parts of two seasons before signing with the Detroit Pistons.
Last year he played over in Turkey (13.3 points).
I wonder if the NBA gives him a shot.
Salem Little League hot again
A year ago, Salem Little League dominated. It’s 12, 11 and 10-year-old teams all won N.H. state Little League titles.
Well, it’s been a rinse and repeat this early summer, as the those same programs, ages 10 through 12, are undefeated — a combined 14-0 in N.H. District 1 play.
Tonight at 6 p.m. should be a good one in Salem, as the 12s host an undefeated and perennial power Bedford L.L. team.
