Merrimack hoops adds Stonehill transfer
The Merrimack men’s basketball team picked up another forward in the transfer portal on Wednesday, landing a commitment from 6-foot-7 Stonehill forward Todd Brogna.
Brogna was named All-NEC Third Team this past season for the Skyhawks. In 30 games (29 starts), he averaged 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Brogna was one of the top free-throw shooters in the country, shooting 91.7 percent (88 for 96) from the line, ranking him No. 11 in the nation.
Brogna is originally from Southborough, Mass., and played his high school basketball at Worcester Academy.
Brogna is transferring with two years of eligibility remaining.
Sloper drafted by Nebraska in USHL
North Andover’s Brady Sloper, who just completed his sophomore year at Belmont Hill, was selected by the Lincoln (Neb.) Stars of the USHL with the 62nd overall pick.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman, who played privately for the Boston Eagles, spent his first year at North Andover High before reclassifying at Belmont Hill.
He is noted for his tough, athletic defense, on one of the top N.E. prep school programs.
Sloper is expected to a draft candidate for the QMJHL, based in Canada, next month. He will have a decision to make, possibly moving away to play hockey and take classes at the University of Nebraska, if he joins the Stars.
Sloper is also a noted lacrosse player, a long-pole defender, at Belmont Hill.
Miller’s ends brilliant career at Holy Cross
Former Brooks School lacrosse star Isabela Miller finished her career this past weekend for Holy Cross as one of its all-time greats.
Miller, of North Andover, led team with 33 goals, 52 assists, 85 points, most ever in a season.
The senior attacker also leaves as the programs all-time assists leader (128) and second all-time in points.
Nelson opens relegation round
Two years ago, Tyler Nelson made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help his then-Rostock Seawolves clinch a spot in the German’s top division.
Now, with City of Jena, he will attempt to do the same thing as Jena opens it’s best of five hosting Giessen 46ers on Thursday (1:30 p.m. EST).
Jena won the German Pro A league regular season at 30-4.
Nelson was signed by Jena after he left Kolossos in the top Greek division.
He averaged 13.8 points in just over 18 minutes of action per game. He led the team shooting 46.4% in 3-pointers.

‘Turk’ coming to Methuen
Former Boston Bruins great Derek Sanderson will make his annual return to Methuen to sign autographs at the monthly card show.
The two-time Stanley Cup champ (1970, 1972) will be at VFW Hall on Sun., June 1.
Sanderson will be signing from 10 a.m. until noon.
Autographs cost $25; inscriptions $5; photo ops $5.
The show, which consists of 40 dealer tables, will go from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Admission is $2, free for children under 9.
