Hornets to host Sutton tonight
Tuesday’s MIAA Division 4 Sweet 16 girls basketball game between No. 7 seed Manchester Essex (13-8) and No. 10 Sutton (13-8) was postponed due to weather.
The game will now be played on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., with Manchester Essex still hosting. The Hornets and their Cape Ann League Player of the Year Harper Brooks have won 10 of their last 11 games, including a blowout 63-38 victory over No. 26 seed Bourne in the Round of 32 this past Saturday.
Should Manchester advance, they’d travel to No. 2 Millis (17-3) in the Elite Eight on Friday at 6 p.m.
Endicott men’s hoop to host NCAA tourney game
Gloucester’s Marcus Montagnino and the Endicott men’s basketball team are set to host the first two rounds in the upcoming NCAA Division 3 Tournament.
After winning the Conference of New England (CNE) title with a resounding victory over Western New England in the championship game this past weekend, the Gulls will take a 26-1 overall record — and a 20-game winning streak — into Friday’s opening round clash with Neumann University (19-9). That tourney tilt is slated for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Endicott is currently ranked No. 11 in the entire country and is aiming to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2017. Should they win on Friday, the Gulls would face the winner of Franklin & Marshall vs. Cortland on Saturday at 6:30 back at home.
Gloucester’s Costanzo hoping to help Gulls to CNE title
Another former Gloucester High School standout, Jack Costanzo, is aiming for similar success with the Endicott men’s hockey program.
A sophomore forward, Costanzo has piled up six goals and a team-high 18 assists this season while holding an impressive plus/minus of +17. Costanzo helped the Gulls top Suffolk, 4-1, in this past weekend’s CNE semifinals, earning them a spot in Saturday’s conference championship tilt against the University of New England. Endicott split a pair of regular season contests with UNE back in mid-January.
Currently riding a seven-game winning streak and boasting an impressive 20-3-3 record overall, Endicott was most recently ranked as the No. 3 team Division 3 team in the country behind unbeaten Hobart (27-0) and NESCAC representative Hamilton (19-4-2). UNE, meanwhile, is ranked No. 5 in the nation with a 20-3-0 record.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at UNE.
