Andover’s Lachance honored by Hockey East
Boston University freshman Shane Lachance, of Andover, was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week for his big weekend in the Terriers sweep of Merrimack College.
Lachance was instrumental in the Terriers’ 4-1 win at Merrimack on Friday night, as he scored two goals in the second period to help BU build a 3-0 lead. He also blocked two shots during the weekend sweep. Lachance’s two tallies matched his career high, which he set at Notre Dame on Oct. 21 when he potted the first two goals of his collegiate career.
Lachance, whose grandfather is long-time B.U. coach Jack Parker, has scored five goals and six assists for 11 points in 16 games this season. Eight of his 11 points have come since the beginning of November, as he has helped BU go 8-2-0 over its last 10 games, including four victories over top-10 opponents.
Butkus honored in Lawrence today
The Lithuanian Patriots Society with be hosting a celebration of Dick Butkus life and career today at the Bavarian Club at 41 Knox St. in Lawrence.
Butkus, who passed away on Oct. 5 at 80, will be celebrated from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. by the group. There will be a reading about Butkus’ life and career.
There will also be question and answer session, as well as refreshments. The event is open to the public.
Nifty returns to Methuen
After being a huge draw earlier in the fall, Bruins legend Rick Middleton will return to sign autographs in Methuen on Sunday, Dec. 10.
Middleton will be at the Methuen Monthly Sports Card Show at the VFW Hall on 26 River Street.
The autographs cost $15, with $5 for inscriptions and photo opportunities. Mail-ins cost $20.
He will be signing from 10 a.m. until noon. The card show, which includes 40 dealer tables, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission is $2; under-9 free.

Tickets for Women’s Frozen Four at UNH
The University of New Hampshire and the NCAA have announced tickets for the 2024 NCAA NC Women’s Frozen Four at the Whittemore Center on March 22 & 24 will go on sale Fri., Dec. 8 at 10 a.m.
The weekend will commence Fri., March 22 with the two national semifinals at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Those winners will face off for the NCAA title Sun., March 24 at 4 p.m. The Wildcats also served as the host school for the Frozen Four in 2002, 2005 and 2016.
Single-session ticket prices are $25 for adults and $15 for seniors (65+), youth (12 and under), military and college students. All-Session tickets (for all three games) are $40 for adults and $25 for seniors, youth, military and college students.
Font lost unanimous decision
In case you missed it, Haverhill resident Rob Font lost a big bout on the UFC card on Saturday night in Austin, Tex. to No. 2 flyweight contender Deiveson Figueirdo.
Figueirdo is an elite UFC fighter who was moving up to bantamweight to fight Font, who was ranked No. 8, won a unanimous decision, taking all three rounds on all three cards.
Font has now lost two of three bouts, all in 2023. and he’s lost three of four with the three losses by decision and the win was by first round KO.
It won’t easy, but Font will need to work his way back to “contender” status.
