Guinee commits to Army
Andover High’s Dan Guinee announced this morning via his Instagram that he’s headed to West Point in 2027.
The rising junior, following in the footsteps of his older brother, former Eagle-Tribune Player of the Year, J.P. Guinee, who completed his post-grad year at Fork Union Military Academy where he starred as a the attackman had a breakout sophomore season for the Warriors.
Merrimack hoops gets 2026 commit
Per Mack Report’s Mike McMahon, the Merrimack men’s basketball team got an early start on the 2026 recruiting class after they received a commitment from guard Ayden Johnson.
Johnson is from North Carolina and attends Caldwell Academy. This season, he averaged 12.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.8 steals, and he shot 40 percent from 3-point range.
This summer, he’ll play AAU for Team CP3, which is owned by Chris Paul, in the EYCL. Through 15 games, he has averaged 18.0 points and 7.5 assists.
According to “Made Hoops,” Johnson had offers from Merrimack and Radford; Columbia made him an offer just before he committed to the Warriors. Other schools that showed interest included Presbyterian, Queens, and UNC Greensboro.
Nifty returns to Methuen
Bruins legend Rick Middleton will returns from his part-time home in Florida to sign autographs in Methuen on Sunday, July 6.
Middleton will be at the Methuen Monthly Sports Card Show at the VFW Hall on 26 River Street.
The autographs cost $15, with $5 for inscriptions and photo opportunities. Mail-ins cost $20.
He will be signing from 10 a.m. until noon. The card show, which includes 40 dealer tables, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission is $2; under-9 free.

Andover football adds coach
New Andover High football head coach Jay Fielding keeps adding to his new staff with Mark Colantonio taking over as defensive backs coach.
Colantonio starred at Londonderry High before a nice career at St. Anselm, where he was a two-time captain.
He was also a track star, among the all-time area leaders in the 200 meter dash.
Ex-Merrimack star heading to Dayton
Jordan Derkack, a 6-foot-5 guard who played last season at Rutgers after two seasons at Merrimack, committed to the Dayton Flyers on Tuesday.
Derkack made his decision two days after Georgia transfer De’Shayne Montgomery, another 6-5 guard, picked Dayton. They join incoming freshmen Damon Friery and Jaron McKie on the list of newcomers on Dayton’s 2025-26 roster.
Derkack averaged 5.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 31 games last season for Rutgers. He averaged 17.0 minutes per game and started 10 games. He played 20 or more minutes 10 times in the first 11 games but only three times the rest of the season. With one exception, he played single-digit minutes in the last eight games of the season.
